  • Understand business requirements for optimization solutions and perform applied research that will support these requirements.
  • Develop statistical and optimization algorithms and follow the algorithms through the entire software lifecycle: design, implementation, quality assurance, distribution.
  • Ability to conduct research independently or as part of a team: concept formulation, definition of metrics, determination of appropriate methodology, performance evaluation, and final research report. Research must be timely and reproducible.
  • Present statistical concepts and results of research to the broader business team
  • Understand all statistical/mathematical aspects of optimized ad delivery (i.e. DoubleClick's DART product) - including business purpose and deep system knowledge of DART
  • Work with client data to analyze performance and optimization issues.
  • Evangelize statistical/optimization methods to other areas of the business. Skills:
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical methods (regression & classification methods, discriminant analysis, cluster analysis, anova, time series, sampling, inferences, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with Optimization algorithms: Linear Programming, Quadratic programming, dynamic programming, simulation, etc.
  • Familiarity with machine learning / statistical learning theory: supervised/unsupervised/reinforcement learning. Model building - model assessment and selection, bias vs. variance tradeoff.
  • Programming skills: competency in several of the following: perl, java, C/C++, SQL, R/S-plus, SAS, shell scripting
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux
  • Experience in working with a large, enterprise computing system.
  • Experience working with massive (10^9) datasets.
  • Ability to assess business environment for additional opportunities

  • Advanced degree in a statistical/quantitative field, required.
  • Five years experience in a statistical/quantitative field, required
  • Three years experience conducting original research, required
  • Three years experience working with external clients in a business environment, required
  • Ability to travel up to twice a quarter, required
