Systems Engineer - Patch Management/SMS in New York, NY

The employee will be responsible for ensuring that all Windows based systems are updated with the latest Microsoft security patches, maintain and monitor Symantec Client Security for the enterprise, and assist with the maintenance of Systems Management Server (SMS). To do so, the employee will use SMS to manage the packaging, testing, certification, and deployment of Microsoft security patches worldwide and to provide reporting on the compliance levels of all Windows based systems. The employee will also monitor Symantec Client Security (SCS) for the enterprise to ensure that all clients are running with SCS and have the latest definitions installed. Evaluate security patches released by Microsoft for Windows based systems for all machines worldwide. Determine in conjunction with the Production Services group if such patches need to be deployed to all Windows servers and/or workstations. Create SMS packages for Microsoft security patches. Test & certify them in conjunction with all the development groups. Once they are certified by the appropriate groups, schedule to deploy them via SMS to all relevant systems. Coordinate the resolution of patching vulnerable systems as identified by nCircle, on all affected Windows systems. Provide reports from SMS regarding the number of machines that are not in compliance with the latest patch levels and resolve any problems related to the failure of the security updates on those machines. Act as WSSD liaison for weekly patch management meetings where the relevance of the security patches to our systems is discussed with the Production Services representative & other WSSD staff members. Maintain documented procedures for the patch deployment process. Maintain and monitor Symantec Client Security. Plan upgrades when necessary to the latest version. Ensure that all clients are installed with SCS and are running with the latest definitions. Provide backup support for maintaining the SMS infrastructure including the testing, planning, and implementation of upgrades to the existing SMS infrastructure in conjunction with the lead SMS administrator. Create, test, and deploy SMS packages when required to remedy third party software that have security vulnerabilities as identified by nCircle scans. Assist with the clean up and maintenance of SMS clients on all MIS systems to improve the overall success rates of software deployments. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of ?hands-on? experience with SMS 2003 / SMS 2.0 for the administration of SMS, creation of SMS collections, packages, and advertisements, the use of SUS feature pack and SMS web reports. Minimum of 3 years of using a packaging tool such as Wise for Windows Installer and/or Installshield, and Visual Basic or Visual C++. Minimum of 3 years troubleshooting experience of Win2K Professional and Server systems. Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Management Systems, or related field. Technical skills in managing SMS 2003 and troubleshooting Win2K Professional and Win2K server operating systems are required. Understanding of Active Directory is required.
