Broadcast Technical Specialist, New Media Distribution



Job Responsibilities :

Candidate will serve as the primary individual responsible for technical preparation and distribution of video programming to third party cable TV video-on-demand (VOD) services. Candidate will assist in the design, development, analysis, testing and implementation of new broadcast computer-based systems. Candidate will support digital, file-based content workflows and computer-controlled broadcast equipment. Candidate will provide analysis, operate and support a wide range of computer-based, digital video production systems and IP networks in a digital media/video production environment. Other responsibilities will include hands-on preventative maintenance, in-service testing, modifications and the implementation of these systems.



These systems include those directly or indirectly related to computer-based broadcast operations such as:

  • Automated video encoding, transcoding, and distribution systems

  • Program-related data insertion systems

  • Metadata systems including program play lists, Edit Decision Lists and ADI files

  • Avid editing, playout, automation and storage systems

  • Network Attached Storage systems

  • Content Delivery Networks

  • Graphics systems, content sharing networks and storage systems

  • Computer-based television control room systems

  • Remote monitoring and diagnostic systems

  • Video production switchers and audio consoles



    This position includes working ?non-traditional? hours (evenings, overnights, and weekends); consistent attendance is essential.



    Required Qualifications :

  • College degree related to computer systems engineering or computer science AND broadcast technical experience.

  • Experience with:

    o Digital video ingest, encoding, transcoding and distribution systems

    o Non-linear editing

    o Video codecs

    o A/V signal flows and broadcast devices typical in a television facility

    o IP protocols, LAN topologies, switching, and routing (CCNA a plus)

    o Windows XP/NT/2000/2003 server/workstation OS (MCSE a plus)

    o Video Disk Servers

    o Streaming video

    o Internet/Web publishing and operations.

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of broadcast-related software.

  • Flexible to work in a 24/7 rotating shift operation.

  • Minimum 5 years technical experience in a professional digital media, Internet, TV, radio, or media production environment.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills. Experience with digital audio and video standards. Familiarity with computer and networking technologies.
