POSITION/TITLE: IS Network Engineer

Location: Uniondale NY 11556

5 month contract to hire



GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Manage and maintain the integrity of their data and network infrastructure so that functionality and customer support is optimal at all times.





PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Help define the architecture, evaluate products and implement new technology into the network

· Troubleshoot hardware and software problems for servers in a client/server based environment in a mixed operating system platform

· Maintain LAN and WAN including servers and attached devices, routers, switches, leased lines, wireless, cabling and other network equipment

· Issue timely network status updates to IS Director when issues arise

· Active Directory administration

· Document and update network topology and other network information in IT notebooks.

· Participate regularly in meetings with IS Director, team members and partners for updates and to discuss new IT initiatives to increase productivity

· Assist and coordinate with others to maintain audit compliance

· Rotate backup tapes offsite based on preset daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual schedule

· Review ITS helpdesk mailbox to ensure helpdesk items are process timely

· Check network equipment and server logs daily and sign-off

· Research newly developed solutions and problems to enhance network environment and improve personal knowledge of IT advancements

· Coordinate with Network Operations Center to review monthly reports about network utilization and statistics

· Coordinate and build relationships with external vendors and consultants for enhanced defined service

· Travel to remote sites to physically ensure network stability and perform necessary installs

· Participate as required during a "State of Emergency"; with all other Company employees to provide ITS services necessary to ensure functional operating status is restored

· Coordinate with key individuals to create and test Disaster Recovery initiatives

· Perform other job related duties as required





Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:



· Solid understanding of IP networking and TCP/UDP, BGP and OSPF

· Candidate must have working knowledge of AD, DNS, SMTP and server technologies/protocols

· Solid understanding of LAN / WAN protocols - VRRP, Spanning Tree, Ethernet, VLAN, PPP, Frame Relay, DSL, VPN and MPLS

· Solid understanding of Exchange, Metaframe, Blackberry and FTP servers

· In depth knowledge of the seven layers within the OSI model

· Experience with IP Addressing including subnetting

· Experience configuring and troubleshooting router, switch, wireless, server, tape backup devices and other hardware in fault-tolerant environments

· Experience with VMWARE, SQL, and OpenVMS

· Experience working with service providers testing and troubleshooting Dial-up, DSL, MAN, MPLS, FT1 through OC12 circuits

· Self-motivation and the ability to work with minimum supervision

· Good decision making abilities a must

· Strong communication skills (oral and written)

· Flexibility to support 24 / 7 /365 operations
