Smart IT is seeking a Cisco Network Engineer for a contract-to-perm position located in Schenectady, NY. Job Purpose Conduct network troubleshooting and handling of incident and problem management as well as implement network changes as required. On call for technical escalation on a rotational basis. Primary skill sets with Cisco LAN and WAN. Update procedures and guidelines for implementation and management of network as they relate to defined support plans. Update network diagrams as needed. Mentoring L2s for technical development. Responsible for the management of network support related to deliver performance, reliability and scalability of the network. Responsible for mentoring and cross training other members of the team in the area of expertise of the position to broaden the knowledge base within the team. Essential Functions - 80% - Incident and problem management - 10% - Write, and maintain systems documentation and network diagrams. - 10% - Using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to diagnose problems and determine source. Education Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Experience / Background 6 to 7 years Accreditation / Certification / Licenses - Cisco Certifications CCNP preferred - Cisco Security Specialization a plus - Cisco VPN Specialization a plus - Checkpoint CCSA or CCSE a plus Previous Job Experience - Experience and expertise in Cisco LAN and WAN - Experience implementing/managing MPLS WAN circuits - Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to plan for growth, diagnose problems and determine source. - Experience implementing/managing Cisco products including but not limited to (2800/3800/7200 series routers, 2900/3700/6500 series switches, Cisco pix firewall# - Experience implementing/managing EIGRP/BGP routing protocols in an enterprise network environment - Experience implementing Vlan technology in an enterprise environment Supervisory Responsibilities Escalation point for L2 level technicians with on call responsibilities rotating with other L3s Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities - Working knowledge of MPLS, DS3, T1, OC3, ISDN, Frame Relay, SONET, ATM, and DSL and other bandwidth link specifications - Working knowledge of TCP/IP enhancements such as multi-cast, QOS techniques, bandwidth and path reservation techniques. - Working knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of routers, hubs, bridges, and switches. - Familiar with both open-source and commercial sniffer products #tcpdump, ethereal) - Experience with Bluecoat/Bluecat proxy/dns products a plus - Experience with Checkpoint/Cisco/Netscreen firewalls a plus - Experience with Juniper ssl vpn product a plus - Experience with F5 Big/IP a plus Shift - Regular 1st shift hours - M-F 8a-5p with on-call rotation ~ every 5 weeks To Apply to this job go to http://www.GadBall.com or click here
