Manager Application Services - Flight in Forest Hills, NY

I. Position Summary:

The Manager manages an internal application development team, which consists of Architects and Developers, within the Information Technology (IT) Application Services discipline that provides custom software using cutting edge technologies and practices to JetBlue Airways' business units.

II. Essential Functions:

Manager, Application Services - Specific Functions
? Manages resource allocation and coordinates with IT Project Managers for development, enhancement and maintenance of applications
? Enables the business units through creative and effective application of technology
? Establishes and facilitates process and teamwork in application development resulting in a proactive approach to day-to-day activities within the group
? Identifies and removes obstacles to productivity and the individual growth of team members
? Enables technologists to excel
? Manages Architects and Developers in their careers/technical development
? Mentors team members
? Establishes and maintains a high level of morale and collaboration in an environment of aggressive growth and change
? Contributes to the ongoing evolution of the management and team structure

Manager Level - Core Functions
? Assists Crewmembers in prioritizing new development projects, enhancement projects for existing systems, and systems maintenance projects
? Interfaces with IT Station Crewmembers for projects in BlueCities (i.e. gate move, ticket counter move, new ramp office)
? Works closely with project teams, vendors and other groups to coordinate plans and activities
? Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change
? Provides guidance and assesses requirements for additional services and promote use of IT services, where appropriate
? Makes recommendations regarding scope, timeline or budget changes/improvements
? Manages a portfolio of multiple projects simultaneously, potentially across multiple business units

III. Minimum Qualifications:

? Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline with specialized leadership training and/or demonstrated capability through previous experience and education to perform job responsibilities
? Five (5) years of experience in managing application development teams on a direct reporting basis
? Five (5) years of experience in software architecture preferred
? Experience with industry standards in project management and development methodologies (PMBOK, MSF, SEI, Agile Methods, RUP, etc.)
? Regular attendance and punctuality
? Organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun and Passion
? Well groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
? Pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
? Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
? When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

IV. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Manager, Application Services - Specific Competencies
? Knowledge of technology fundamentals and concepts, preferably in Microsoft technologies such as C/C++, Visual Studio.NET, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, SQL Server 2000, and XML, COM, DCOM, OLE / Active X, MTS, COM+, ODBC, DAO and ADO, ADO.NET, JDBC, JDO, CMP, BMP and CMR
? Programming Languages; including VB 6, VB.NET, C#. NET, Java, C++, Visual Basic, ASP, Visual Interdev, VS.NET, SQL Navigator, Visual Source Safe, SOAP SDK
? HTML, DHTML, Remote Scripting, VB/ Java Scripting, VBA, XML, XSL and XSLT
? In depth knowledge of Design Pattern usage including Observer, MVC, DAO, Factory, Facade, Controller, Strategy
? Object Oriented Analysis, Modeling and Design using UML, hands on RUP, XP and MSF implementation experience
? Software Engineering, documentation and software project planning/management
? Web Farm Architecture Design (Software and logical Network)
? Software Architecture for N-Tier Applications using Microsoft .NET (DNA) and Sun J2EE
? Architecture of XML Web Services using .NET platforms and J2EE
? Secure Applications designing with firewalls and Load. Clustering Services and Fail over solutions using RAC and MS SQL Server Clustering service
