Role: Systems Engineer for Web Application Infrastructure Approximately two years ago our client created a Web Systems Engineering group whose primary goal is to provide technical expertise and direction in the design, development and support of company's web infrastructure. This includes providing support for their application components surrounding their web presence (Internet & Intranet) The charter of this group is to be completely conversant in our clients entire web infrastructure and to essentially be platform agnostic. Thus, qualified applicants should be well-experienced in Windows, Unix/Linux operating systems, as well as with middleware tools such as JBoss, Weblogic and/or Websphere. Primary responsibilities will include setup, configuration, design, development, testing, implementation and deployment of web application services. Overall responsibilities will include hardware and operating system support, application coding, as well as designing, configuring and tuning servers / applications for optimal performance. In order to succeed in this role the successful candidate will also: Work with other IT groups to refine the design requirements into a technical solution. Provide solutions to a wide range of interoperability issues that may exist in the Extranet / Intranet environment. Participate in multiple company sponsored projects Provide 3rd level support to highly visible, client facing applications. Participated in rotating 24/7 on-call schedule. This organization utilizes many software products to support their existing environment, including: Unix (Solaris, HP-UX), Linux, Windows, Siteminder, Waveset, Active Directory, Lighthouse, BigIP, Weblogic, JBoss, Oracle, Peregrine, IDM, ActiveSync, OID, The communicator, Tivoli, Apache, Citrix, IIS, LDAP, SunONE, Websphere, etc. Experience: Education * BS/MS Degree in IT or MIS or related curriculum Experience: * 5+ years in Systems Administration * 2-3+ years in engineering solutions to support a web application development environment (J2EE) * Solaris system administration experience * Linux system administration experience * Windows system administration experience * Some Unix scripting experience (i.e. k-shell, bourne, korn, bash, perl, etc.) Soft skills: * The ability to thrive in a team centric environment. * The ability to effectively communicate your thoughts and ideas to a team of peers. * An interest in investing your own personal time towards researching solutions that would be of value to your employer.
