Excel VBA/Java developer





Applications Development - Client Server



6 - 12 Months





Responsible for the design, development, coding, testing, debugging and documentation of applications to satisfy the requirements of one or more user areas. May include hands-on new development as well as support, maintenance or enhancement of existing applications. Works closely with client management to identify and specify complex business requirements and processes. Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and makes recommendations.

Market Risk Technology (MRT) is responsible for the build-out and maintenance of applications and tools to support the Market Risk function of the Investment Bank.

It consists of several in-house applications and a suite of desktop-based tools (Excel, etc)



We need to continue the immediate support and maintenance of the desktop tools, but also evaulate each of them and see if they would fit into the more strategic application environment.

Where appropriate this resource would be involved in migrating functionality out of the tactical space (Excel VBA) and into the strategic space (Java/Sybase, etc).

There may also be new functionality that needs to be built in Excel, so the resource should have good experience in building tools from scratch.

The role will be roughly a 60/40 split between Excel VBA & Java.



The key skills are:

MS Excel & Excel VBA (5+ years)

Java 1.4 & 1.5 (5+ years)

Ability to understand and debug code and translate the functionality into business requirements

Ability to streamline these requirements where appropriate and migrate them into the strategic environment

Ability to build robust, maintainable & supportable tactical tools in Excel/VBA from scratch

Strong communication & interpersonal skills (ability to work with non-technical users)



The nice-to-have skills are:

MS Access & Access VBA

C++

Unix

Sybase
