Technical Engineer, Data Network (Network Engineer)New York6 months RTHThe Technical Engineer, Data Network will serve as a technical resource to the Network Engineering/Operations team and technical consult to the Director of the team. The individual is expected to have thorough working knowledge of LAN/WAN engineering. He/She will be responsible for reacting to requests from service ticket requests, service outages, change control, and other related network projects. He/She must be an expert in the internetworking field and have expert knowledge of Cisco, Foundry and Nortel Switches and routers. The position will be accountable for all technical decisions made in an effort to bring a solution to a trouble ticket or outage. In other proactive situations, such as change control requests, decisions are subject to the approval of the Director and other department heads. The position serves as the primary tehnical resource and as such, will be responsible for maintaing the skill set necessary to be effective. Employee is acountable for all dealines set by the Director. Employee is accountable for all projects assigned to him/her and meeting the deadine set. Employee is responsible for all decisions, communications, and actions performed. RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: Provide first line support when system failures occur Provide on-the-spot recommendations for fixes to bring the LAN/WAN production components back on-line quickly and effciently Respond to any/all service tickets Work with Engineering team to resolve any issues Performs network maintenance Perform upgrades to LAN/WAN; Circuit bumps, moves, terminations; Fluking Structured Cabling, patching On-Call participation in 24/7 support with availability in the event of any escalations KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: 6-8 years total business experience 3-5 years as a network technician in a large network environment Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) Strong interpersonal skills Must have heavy network hands on technical experience (LAN/WAN) Nortel Networks Passport 8600s and Baystack Ethernet Routing Switches Cisco 3550, 3560, 3570, 4500, 6000, 6500 series switches, 2600, 2800, 3800, 1800, 831 series Routers OSPF, BGP routing protocols Foundry experience a plusT1, T3, ATM, Frame-Relay, MPLS Knowledge of structured cable design and implementations EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: Undergraduate Degree or equivalent work experience Required Skills: --See job description-- To Apply to this job go to http://www.GadBall.com or click here
