Position Title: Server Specialist
Duration: 6months
Location: Yorktown, NY
Salary: $40-$45 hourly on W2
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Linux system administration duties.
- Candidate will be responsible for addressing requests from a group of ~50 researchers and for maintaining and expanding a cluster consisting of about 200 machines and 50TB of disk space used primarily for scientific computing.
- Ideal candidate has several years of Linux system administration experience with large clusters, bright, motivated applicants with less experience who show an aptitude and inclination for learning new technologies on their own will also be considered.
- Maintenance and administration of the cluster from the ground up, including networking and SAN.
- Monitoring the cluster and responding
to user requests.
- Troubleshooting problems of any kind.
- Backup and recovery.
- Making recommendations on how to upgrade the cluster in terms of
computation/networking/storage (both hardware and software) and
implementing them.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 3+ years of UNIX/Linux experience as their platform of choice.
- 2+ years of UNIX/Linux system administration experience of networked
computers with multiple user accounts and shared filesystems, preferably
with a large cluster (50+) of machines.
- The candidate should have experience with both the software side and setting up hardware/networking, as well as experience with automating the centralized management of a cluster through scripting.
- Competent programming skills in Perl or Python or similar and competence
in shell scripting (comfortable with other scripting languages)..
-TCP/IP networking, DNS, NFS, RAID, kernel customization, cron, RPMs, basic security (preferred)
- Good communication skills.
