I. Position Summary:
The Systems Engineer, Virtualization has primary responsibility to design & maintain the enterprise VMWare ESX environment. The incumbent will work with IT and business leadership to develop requirements and provide effective solutions that leverage virtualization technologies. The Systems Engineer, Virtualization will also lead projects related to migration of legacy platforms and technologies, and analysis & implementation of future opportunities leveraging virtualization. This position will provide second tier escalation for all operational incidents, and provide guidance to junior engineers and other technical staff.
II. Primary Responsibilities:
A.*Plan, test, and implement technical solutions to VMWare environment. Evaluate and implement new hardware and software solutions that benefit technical architecture and operations.
B.*Provide strong operational support on VMWare ESX servers
C.*Act as a knowledge share and technical resource for other areas of the IT organization. Make recommendations to the Technical Services team for improvements to the virtualized infrastructure.
D.*Assist in the development, maintenance, and testing of a disaster recovery plan for virtualized infrastructure leveraging VMware's Site Recovery Manager, and participate in Disaster Recovery activities as necessary
E.*Perform security assessment and testing of assigned systems
F.*Interact with internal business partners to understand the business use and functionality of IT systems, and develop standard virtualized architectures for applications and systems
G.*Manage vendor relationships, contract maintenance and support, and product roadmaps and strategies
H.*Provide training and direction to other team members in Technical Services as needed
I.*Participate in organizational projects and initiatives in order to ascertain requirements and create effective solutions
J.*Adapt to changing work priorities and a fast-paced environment while maintaining a professional attitude.
K.*Maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with people both internally and externally as it relates to the operations and business of .
L.*Work independently and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Decision Making Authority
The Systems Management Engineer will evaluate and make final recommendation on systems management tools and products, but will not have purchasing authority.
The Systems Management Engineer will, on occasion, make operational decisions that impact availability of supported systems.
Education & Training
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Technology or equivalent work experience required; Master's preferred.
* VMWare VCP required
* MCSE a strong plus
* Other certifications (ITIL, PMP) a plus
Skills & Abilities
A. Knowledge of multi tiered IT architectures using multiple Windows and UNIX operating systems, middleware and database components, and large host-based systems.
B. Knowledge of network protocols and standards
C. Demonstrable understanding of enterprise-level IT operations & security concepts, methodologies and techniques
D. Strong knowledge of VMWare ESX server and virtualization concepts
E. Strong knowledge of the Windows 2003 server environment
F. Project management skills using PMI principles, and a demonstrated ability to work on multiple complex projects and delivering work on schedule
G.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are required
Experience
* Minimum of five years experience in Information Technology, preferably providing operational support in a Command Center or Operations Center
* Demonstrable experience managing IT projects, budgets and vendor relationships
* HMO or health related industry preferred but not required.
