Function Overview
CARM is HSBC's Group System for processing commercial credit applications. It currently is in use by 20,000 users in 20 countries, and maintains $370 Billion in credit limits. The core system is developed and maintained by a team of 25 developers based in Buffalo. CARM is composed of a Web-enabled user interface written in Java, and a host system written in AS/400 COBOL. Current development challenges include: Expanding CARM functionality to make it compliant with "New Basel Capital Accord" initiatives, planning implementation of the system in the remainder of the Group's 80 countries, and making the system fully multi-language capable. The job-holder will be primarily responsible for analysis and programming tasks of a high level of complexity, using Java on the client-server platform.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist in the development, design and implementation of business systems. Serve as member of a project team or as an individual contributor when assigned. Provide technical support for very complex, highly critical programs and systems. Identify and implement strategies to address automation, productivity and infrastructure issues. Develop and maintain expert knowledge in the CfC application. Maintain knowledge of CfC current hardware and software stack and requirements for upgrading.
2. Provide technical leadership and consultation to project team members as directed by the project manager. When assigned as lead on a project team, lead on projects of high complexity and criticality, prepare estimates, and lead team to assure objectives are met on time and with acceptable quality. Determine impacts and alternate solutions as required, and identify opportunities to use technology to improve availability and processing to advance business initiatives. May lead multiple projects simultaneously.
3. Perform business systems development tasks, including: working with clients to define systems needs; assisting in the designing of business systems to meet client needs; installing and implementing vendor packages; and conducting research in emerging technologies. Design, code, test, debug and document programs that are required by the application and system infrastructure. Develop expertise in automated system performance testing and coordinate as needed.
4. Coordinate with the server support group to maintain CARM for Corporates (CfC) Web applications. This includes development and production servers for CfC hosted sites and Core CARM. The candidate will be required to check on the status/health of Web applications and possibly write Unix command scripts to stop and start applications. He/she will need to add and remove Web apps. They will need to maintain the web pages with links between environments such as between our user support page and the links to production web apps. The candidate will be required to investigate various problems as they arise that are related to running web applications. He/she will be required to use ReflectionsX for PSeries access activity. Responsible to assist in maintaining availability for pSeries 24x7 and coordinate with Server Support as needed. Assist in CfC problem resolution as needed 24x7.
5. The candidate will be required to coordinate MQ Series changes with North American Middleware Operations. He/she should be conversant in MQ in order to discuss relevant issues and agree with the MQ owners on MQ requirements for the CfC system it it's entirety. Some problem investigation in MQ may also be necessary.
6. Maintain Health Check software and process, attend meetings as required. Migrate from OneSight monitoring system to BMC Patrol software.
7. Assist in the training and orientation of other staff and clients as required.
8. Develop proficiency in project management and systems analysis skills. Maintain proficiency in programming languages, program development and testing; serve as expert in area of responsibility. Provide technical analysis and solutions to issues; assist in setting technical direction. Remain current on technical and professional developments and business strategies affecting area of responsibility.
9. Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices; rep Experience: Requirements
* Minimum of eight years Information Technology experience and/or equivalent experience.
* A Bachelor?s degree in computer science, management information systems, engineering, related technical field or equivalent experience
* Demonstrated project management skills and knowledge of the systems development lifecycle.
* Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
* Strong communication and leadership ability; strong problem solving skills; proficiency in analytic and quality assurance techniques; and a willingness to take appropriate risks.
Knowledge of:
IBM pSeries, MQ Series, Websphere, ReflectionsX. Either JAVA or iSeries COBOL.
