The ideal candidate will have a diverse background in database technologies and the architecture, design, development and optimization of large scale database implementations. The candidate will have a firm grasp of the various database architectures for OLTP, ODS and Data Warehouse (last one preferable) databases and be able to identify and select architectural approaches that support high levels of availability, scalability, data integrity and performance. The candidate will possess an end-to-end' understanding of data management, enabling an appreciation of the infrastructure impact of database design decisions.

Some Key Responsibilities:
. Perform hands-on database engineering tasks in the development of complex, large-scale, (multi-terabyte size) MPP data warehouse databases
. Perform hands-on database engineering tasks in the development of data mart databases
. Perform capacity planning activities as related to database storage, CPU, memory and network utilization
. Optimize the database environments with respect to data access methods, access performance, storage, data integrity, system performance and system availability
. Work closely with data warehouse developers to optimize for, and efficiently integrate with Informatica ETL platform
. Work closely with the technical infrastructure staff to optimize and integrate the database platforms with the storage subsystems
. Develop stored procedures and shell scripts to automate data feeds from the source systems into the data warehouse
. Develop DB monitoring utilities based on DB2 Snapshot data
. Document database environments and processes.
Some Required Skills and Experience:
. 8+ years of database administration experience with DB2 for z/OS with extensive current experience with DB2 v8--a must
. 6+ years with DB2 UDB ESE with extensive current experience on v8.2 on UNIX and Windows platforms--a must
. 4+ years of solid relational database administration and engineering on MPP database systems--a must
. 4+ years experience with DB2 Data Propagator experience including customization and performance and tuning--a must
. Leadership and mentorship responsibilities--excellent communication skills--a must
. 2+ years experience with Informatica encompassing versions 5.x, 6.x and 7.x--desirable
. Excellent experience with clustering technologies for performance and availability
. Proven experience in designing and configuring databases that scale in the terabyte range
. Excellent experience with DB2 utilities, including DB2 Loader
. Expert performance tuning skills for large MPP and non-partitioned databases
. Excellent understanding of the effects of normalization and denormalization on data integrity and performance
. Excellent SQL coding skills--desirable
. Proficient with JCL
. Experience with third-party products, e.g., Omegamon for DB2, Quest Central for DB2, Strobe--one of these very desirable
. Excellent experience with Workload Management and Stored Procedure Access Space
. Strong experience with DB2 Connect Gateway. Must possess architecture, performance tuning and troubleshoot ing experience
. Strong experience writing and optimizing COBOL Stored Procedures
. Proficient in UNIX scripting using Korn Shell, sed, awk and Perl
. Excellent analytical ability, strong consultative and communication skills.
Highly Desirable Skills:
. 2+ years experience with Teradata with current experience on v2R6--system moving toward this!
. 2+ years experience with Microsoft SQL Server with current experience on version 2000
