Network Engineer in Latham, NY

This local company is seeking a Network Engineer. Candidates will be responsible for Network (LAN and WAN) projects and support in a multi-location host, client/server, and web-based environment. Candidates will provide strong hands-on technical leadership to support staff. Implements standards and solutions to develop and maintain an effective, cost-efficient technical infrastructure. Candidates will need to work cooperatively in a team capacity with all levels of IT development and support staff as well as business organizations to anticipate project requirements and develop timely solutions. Candidates will need to function in a multi-disciplined team role for assigned projects. Experience: TYPICAL DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical o Responsible for the installation, configuration and testing of server hardware and software. o Responsible for the specification, installation, configuration and testing of telecommunications equipment (firewalls, routers, switches, etc.). o Monitors and improves total network performance (mainframe, servers, LAN, WAN, etc.). o Responsible for product/platform standards and system implementations. o Responsible for network disaster recovery planning/testing, network backups, data recovery. o Resolves LAN communications problems. o Provides WAN and Remote Access transport services, analysis and diagnostics. o Provide full network support on a 24 x 7 basis. o Responsible for network security including firewalls, proxy servers, application and system access, data encryption, virus software, etc. o Defines and deploys VPN capabilities. o Troubleshoots network usage and computer peripherals. o Assists in the development of the technical architecture, vision and plans. Communicate vision to technical and business groups, partners and customers. o Responsible for e-mail system management and maintenance Functional o Maintains currency on technical strategies, developments and directions o Provides Project Management and technical design for implementations as needed Professional o Effectively utilizes resources o Manages time to ensure delivery on schedule, within budget o Clear written and verbal communications skills o Demonstrated commitment to quality and team approach o Consistently displays sound judgment based on reliable information o Consistently anticipates issues before they become problems o Self starter, self motivated; able to work independently with minimal supervision o Listens effectively and follows through appropriately o Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills SPECIALIZED SKILLS: o Knowledge of distributed computing architectures. o Strong working knowledge of Windows 2000/XP desktop and NT 4.0/2000/2003 Server environment. o Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000 and 2003. o Thorough knowledge of UNIX and/or Linux. o Thorough knowledge of Checkpoint firewall software. o Thorough knowledge of Cisco routers and switches. o Thorough knowledge of Active Directory. o Strong working knowledge of LAN and WAN (VPN, frame relay, point to point, T-1, SNA) architectures and protocols. o Strong PC network experience including network cabling topologies; Ethernet, RS232, server/network management and diagnostic tools, network protocols. o Demonstrated knowledge of client/server environments and architectures. o Working knowledge of RDBMS technology; SQL Server 7.0 and DB2 highly desirable. o Knowledge of Microsoft WINS/DNS and DHCP. o MSCE and CCIE certification highly desirable. o Knowledge of Healthcare/Insurance industry applications highly desirable. o Working knowledge of IBM mainframe telecommunications environment. o Thorough knowledge of Internet technologies including World Wide Web.
