SAS Marketing Data Manager in New York, NY

am conducting a search on behalf of my client a major insurance company located in NYC. This is a fulltime opportunity for a SAS Project Leader/Tech. Leader or someone looking to make that next step in their career. Salary range is to $125,000 +/- for the right individual, plus benefits, etc. Sponsorship is available if needed.
Note: Experience supporting a Marketing Group is not required.


This role is responsible for manage, maintain and lead in utilizing the Corporate Customer Data Mart (CCDM), which houses customer-centric data. The individual is responsible for:

· Enhancing the database with complete and accurate customer-focused data and manage the data integrity.

· Taking the lead in utilizing, maintaining and upgrading the marketing databases, business intelligent tools and infrastructure necessary to support direct mail campaigns, customer and business analysis.

· Providing guidance and direction to database vendor-partners in developing and maintenance of CCDM.

· Acting as a primary Corporate Marketing liaison to the IT and Legacy systems.

· Implementing security and backup of the CCDM and preventing non-authorized access to customer data.

· Providing end-to-end data solutions and data processing to support analytics and modeling, marketing campaigns, results tracking and reporting.



This role requires exceptional project management skills, strong analytical skill, experience in advanced SAS programming and business intelligent tools, knowledge of data model and database management including design and development in mid-tiered server and PC environment.

Manage the development and maintenance of Corporate Customer Data Mart (CCDM) - Develop task-based project plan, set timelines and consistent monitor adherence to milestones and deadlines for database marketing projects. Continue developing and enhancing Corporate Customer Data Mart (CCDM) for accuracy and completeness. Conduct front-end assessment, analysis, business requirements definition and functional design processes that reflect needs of the Corporate Marketing. Establish metadata including data dictionary and transformation rules to ensure consistent data usage. Ensure the CCDM is properly updated on schedule. Identify database system processes, industry best practices and recommend integration into database operations. Represent CK&D in weekly status meetings with IT and database external-vendor.

Manage the data processing to support marketing campaigns - Develop and implement campaign data flow processes, campaign tracking procedures, and sales results reporting applications. Partner with campaign management team in developing campaign requirement specifications, producing technical specifications for list selection, manage and/or perform list selection programming, score customers based on predictive models. Track sales, leads, and results for marketing campaigns. Provide data analysis and sizing opportunity during campaign planning stages. Recommend and implement tracking infrastructure for campaigns.

Develop end-to-end solutions of data needs to support advanced analytics teams and others users in Corporate Marketing - Develop data solutions to support analytics team and modelers, market research and other users of Corporate Marketing Determine best source data from CCDM, legacy systems and/or data warehouse to solve business problems. Facilitate the update of demographic, competitive and industry data from external source including documenting its data source. Recommend platform or data organization to best suit needs of analytical team. Manage data integrity. Evaluate, select and implement software for analytics and campaign management teams. Implement business intelligent tools; administer and provide expertise for other Corporate Marketing users in accessing marketing databases.

Manage database production environment and manage hardware and software budget - Recommend, develop, and coordinate with IT to implement technology solutions and infrastructure changes required to support campaign and analytic needs. Examine, optimize and implement data usage practices, data storage and application environments. Develop and implement security practices in accessing customer-data. Develop backup and disaster recovery for CCDM and other data used by analytical team. Project and manage hardware and software licenses and expenditures to meet budget. Review and assist in contract negotiation with external vendors.

Supervise consultants and data analysts. Prioritize assignments; provide adequate resources, review tasks, and sign-off on work performed by data analysts and consultants. Train new CK&D team members on accessing and using Corporate Customer Data Mart to ensure consistency in data usage, results reporting and communications to the field force.

Experience: Bachelors or Master (preferred) in computer science, mathematics, economics or marketing
7+ years of managing vendor partners including delivery of marketing database, campaign management, reporting tools, analytic mart, and end-to-end database maintenance services.
5+ years data management including data modeling, database design, development and/or data analysis
4+ years SAS programming including advanced macro programming, advanced SQL
3-5 years experience within Database Marketing department
Proven experience in project management in technology development environment
Mid-tiered server experience: UNIX or Microsoft Server experience is preferred
Experience of business intelligent tools such as Business Objects, Cognos, or other OLAP tools.
Strong knowledge of DBMS Oracle and DB2
Professional designations such as SAS Programming Certification, Project Management Certification
In-depth knowledge of database construction, campaign tools networking/operating system platforms, external security and communication Strong experience with vendor relationships (contract management, project planning, implementation, and change management)
Excellent communication skills-verbal and written-including ability to effectively present technical issues to non-technical staff in Corporate Marketing
Strong analytical and organizational skills, and attention to details
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate and build organizational relationship with IT managers, IT staff, campaign managers, data consultant team and external technology vendor.
Strong knowledge of best practices in developing and maintenance of marketing customer database as well as privacy practices to protect customer information
Strong problem identification & solving; experience with technical documentation
Ability to interpret business requirements, develop technical specifications and walkthrough specs with IT staff and/or programmers
Excellent QA skills
Ability to keep abreast with trends and latest development in database marketing environment and recommend best practices including appropriate technology, software, process to management
