Description Our client, a Canadian-based bank providing a complete range of retail, commercial, corporate, investment and international banking services is seeking a Unix/Oracle Application Support Consultant. Location: New York, NY Type of Position: Contract Major Responsibilities: Resolution and Prevention of Problems Presented with application level issues on mission critical systems requiring same day resolution. Often, resolution determination requires interaction with other teams onsite and remotely. Considerable effort is placed into determining, developing and delivering procedures to protect production environments from unplanned outages. Provide Technical Assistance to Users Provide third level technical assistance to Front Office, Middle, and Back Office users. Implement automated procedures to solve complex problems. Any manual interventions must be communicated back to the support and the development team to discuss permanent solution. Application Administration and New Projects Perform application support and administration tasks associated with environment of specialisation. Provide application and process cross training to other teammates. Ability to take on new projects and balance between production support items and assigned projects. Control Access, Ensure Security and Contingency Planning Follow and enforce the IT Security bank standards. Contribute to documentation of standard and non standard deployments and practices. Prepare and participate in the implementation and documentation of contingency plans for various hardware and software components. System, Application Monitoring and Updates Setup proactive application monitoring and identify monitoring recommendations to be assessed, tested, and implemented for capacity planning or where resource constraints are identified. Skills Required: Systems and Application Support Specialist focusing on application support with Strong hands on experience with Unix and Oracle. Prior exposure to the front to back Commodities business is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide customer and technical support to the Front, Middle, and Back-office users and report issues to senior management. Experience of Algorithmics products is a plus. Requires the ability to think strategically and have analytical and proactive problem solving skills. Strong in UNIX, Java, C, Perl, Shell scripting, and Oracle database. Knowledge of Unix administrative roles including permissioning, netgroups management Proficient with navigating and troubleshooting Java and Perl logs to resolve errors Good understanding of MS Windows Server, troubleshooting services and permissions Sysadmiral knowledge a plus Bachelors Degree in Computer Science with minimum 5 years work experience, Masters in Computer Science with 3 years, or equivalent 8 - 10 years experience working in the IT profession To Apply to this job go to http://www.GadBall.com or click here
