Description Our client, one of the largest financial services firms, is seeking a Junior to Mid-level Business Analyst with knowledge of Market Data/Reference Data and Finance/Expense Management. Location: New York, NYType of Position: ContractThe position calls for strong Excel/VBA skills for data mining, (eg Macros, Pivot tables, DDE). In addition, candidates need to have a solid grasp of Capital Markets product lines and Broker/Dealer concepts. Basic Function: This function provides Market Data Service (MDS) business consulting providing advice and expertise in market data content, delivery, expense and control. The purpose of this position is to build a partnership with the Bank s Business Manager of an assigned discipline - eg, Fixed Income (Rates, Credit & Securitized Products), Foreign Exchange, Equities, Wealth Management & Private Banking, GTS & Operations, etc. - to ensure market data expenses are kept at their optimum levels, that users are getting the most from the products chosen & take full advantage of those services, that the services in use are well rationalized to avoid redundancy and users are aware of alternatives. This position will additionally be responsible for reviewing Cost Transparency Reports with the Bank s Business Manager for the purpose of controlling & rationalizing the expense of market data in an on-going MDS optimization program. Primary Responsibility: Act as support for the senior business analyst in terms of market data. Including: - 20% o Gathering MD user requirements o Consulting on MD vendor offerings o Coordinating with vendors, users and MD Admin re. trials, adds and deletes of vendor services. o Coordinating between other MDS groups to satisfy the needs of the business. Assist the business in the reduction, rationalization and control of their market data expenses - 30% Create intimate working relationship with the business manager, desk heads, traders and sales people - 10% Understand the products the business deals in and the market data requirements to achieve business objectives. - 10% Provide cost transparency reports to the business unit highlighting trends, price increases or other items that will impact the market data expense forecast. - 10% Assess future needs of the business in terms of market data for dealing in new products - 10% Review new Vendor product offerings within the marketplace. - 5% Assist with the negotiation and establishment of vendor agreements including working with Legal for the completion of T&Cs. - 5% Other Responsibilities: Coordinate efforts with Business Analysts from other regions to provide a consistent global market data strategy across the business group. Participate in special projects. Skills Required: Must have hands-on market data trading floor experience. Must have strong working knowledge of the markets, asset classes and their content requirements (eg Fixed Income, FX, Equities, Research, Clearing & Corporate Finance.) Must have thorough understanding of trading room systems, including, but not limited to Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters desktop applications: Candidate s background should exemplify a strong understanding of the basic market data functions & services used for pricing, analytics, charting, news & commentary within the industry. Desktop API usage such as BLP, DDE/Power Plus Pro, Gissing, etc. Must have strong understanding of reference data, eg, Bloomberg Bulk Data License, Reuters Datascope. Must have strong understanding of reference data, inc., fundamental data, index constituent and weightings data, end-of-day pricing data, and the primary fundamental and quantitative database applications that use this data. Must have good understanding of intellectual property and user provisions as it relates to data redistribution. Must have a basic understanding of vendor market data digital feed offerings including Reuters RDF, IDC, Bloomberg B-Pipe and Inter Dealer Broker Feeds. Must have a basic understanding of direct feed infrastructures, particularly IDC and the major Money Broker feeds (ICAP, Tullett SURF, Cantor Direct, etc). Must have excellent problem solving skills. Must be able to work as a team member & independently. Must be detail oriented. Must be able to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and vast experience with Excel including macros and DDE. Visual Basic experience a major plus. Strong interpersonal skills. Should have general accounting knowledge. Business Need: This position is required to create a ?value-added? bridge between the business managers of the bank and market data expense management. The role of the business analyst is to provide a single point of contact into the MDS organization to address all aspects of market data business analysis including expense control & reduction, content, training, consulting and requirements gathering of current and future needs.
