Pierce Technology Corporation is an established professional services company with a focus on providing information technology services to Fortune 500 companies in the NY/NJ/PA area, on both a consulting and permanent basis. Pierce has an immediate opening with a large corporation in New York City. Description: Client is looking for an enthusiastic junior technologist, who enjoys working closely with the business unit by providing IT support and someone who takes pride in developing IT tools and applications. The candidate will acquire detailed knowledge of market and non-market risk by getting hands-on experience working in both the areas. The day-to-day tasks involve: Working with the traders, multiple client systems, regulatory controllers and associated RPS risk systems. There will be an exposure to equity derivatives pricing and risk calculations by providing support and enhancements to the existing applications for the business unit. There will also be opportunities to learn new technologies and to be involved in strategic development projects by building new components and integrating them with other systems in the RPS group. The team works with a wide range of technologies such as C# GUIs, Sybase and DB2 databases, Ab Initio ETL processes and Linux based Perl and Shell scripts and services. As well as technical skills, success in the role will require the candidate to work extensively with the global IT team and business clients. Experience: Candidate must have 2+ years of hands-on experience, preferably working in a Financial Services company in a production environment, involving support and/or development. The candidate must have strong SQL/database skills coupled with Unix/Linux, Perl/Shell scripting experience. Required Skills: Strong knowledge and 2 years experience working with Sybase, including optimization and performance tuning. Perl and/or Unix shell scripting, and familiarity working with command line tools/utilities is required Fundamentals of Object Oriented Programming. Must have hands-on experience in supporting the production environment, taking the necessary preventive actions to maintain the availability of the system. Must strongly appreciate and understand the impact of code/environmental changes on the business unit. Comfortable with direct interaction with the business users at all levels. Must be a team player, working with the team members to achieve common goal. Desired Skills: Experience of Object Oriented Programming (Java/C++). Writing reports using Crystal Reports. Experience on creating the web based reports. Familiarity with a batch process scheduler e.g. Cron, Autosys, JAWs etc. Knowledge of ETL tools, data warehousing and star schemas. Education: College degree and must be keen to work hard to sharpen their technical skills as well as to gain business knowledge.
