Description:
The position is for a developer/analyst with excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills - not just someone who can code. This individual should have at least five years of application development and database experience. The candidate will be expected to work with the project leader to define long and short-term requirements. He/She is expected to be a hands-on developer, not just an analyst or advisor. This position will require meetings with business clients and the ability to write professional documents and emails. This candidate will work with a team of other developers and a project leader.
The Billing Application is primarily COBOL with an Oracle database. This application is replacing the current Customer Service system, initially deployed in 1981. Multiple system interfaces will still exist to systems and new code needs to be created to replicate that function. Data from the legacy application will also need to be converted and loaded to the Oracle database tables. Data from and to the legacy applications are primarily loaded by batch processing. Currently this is accomplished by batch programming and DTS packages. In addition to the legacy applications, additional integration has been done with other Oracle databases, other SQL Server Databases and flat files.
ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ARE MANDATORY FOR CONSIDERATION:
The assignment will require the candidate to have hands-on skills over a wide range of technologies including:
. Extensive knowledge of Oracle, complex SQL queries, and SQL Loader and SQL Plus.
. Strong knowledge of COBOL (Microfocus a plus), JavaScript, Visual Basic.
. Experience with complex data conversion
Qualifications:
Technical Requirements:
. Strong Oracle system development (5 + years).
(Including database design and data extract and loading)
. Microsoft Dot Net programming (1-2 years).
. COBOL programming (preferably MicroFocus) (5+ years.)
. Microsoft Visual Basic
. Java
. Crystal Reports
. Microsoft Project - able to use and understand
Additional requirements:
. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide written documentation is important
. Excellent analytical skills and experience in application design.
Miscellaneous skills that are a plus:
. Knowledge of SourceSafe and the Utility business
