Summary:Oversees the operation of network services for the organization. Coordinates the activities of Systems Support Specialist and Systems Hardware Specialist.Essential responsibilities:. Manages the implementation, configuration, installation and operation of individual and network information, functional and telecommunication systems for the organization, including personal computers, software, servers, printers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling and internet service providers. Administers e-mail system to ensure uninterrupted service. Assigns projects to Systems Support/Hardware Specialists, schedules their work, prioritizes and coordinates work flow, and trains them to answer questions and resolve problems . Trains employees in all departments to operate and maintain computer applications and peripheral equipment. Researches, evaluates, and recommends new or modified technological products.. Purchases, installs, tests, maintains, and supports new and upgraded hardware and software. Observes computer operation to detect errors or failure in progress of programs. Reads network server monitor and enters commands to help staffers identify and correct errors . Prepares or reviews help desk, maintenance, and malfunction records and reports. Recommends changes in programs, routines, and quality control standards to improve computer operating efficiency and effectiveness of department. Consults with Director of MIS about problems, such as equipment performance, output quality, and maintenance schedule. Solves or assists in solving non-routine or complex software, hardware and procedure problems . As needed, temporarily covers routine tasks for Systems Software/Hardware Specialists when out of the office . Assists with development, testing, and maintenance of disaster recovery plans. Manages computer operation scheduling, back-ups, storage, and retrieval functions. Establishes and maintains network users, user environment, directories and security. Works with vendors as needed. Works with department managers to develop system solutions consistent with organizational objectives. Ensures that all software is properly licensed and registered. Works on special projects for departments and for annual meetings/conventions; may be required to travel for these purposes.. As needed, oversees the proper functioning of audio-visual equipment and computer connections at meetings and events Budget Authority: NoneSupervision Received: GeneralSupervision Exercised: Trains, assigns and reviews work of SpecialistsInterpersonal Contacts: Frequent internal and external contactsEducation Required: Completion of applicable accredited technical training programs; Bachelor's Degree is a plusExperience Required: At least five years' experience supporting and training others in the use of hardware and software. Must have knowledge of network and software technology. Technical Skills: MS Windows 2000/2003, XP and Outlook. Proficiency in MS Office 2003 suite. Experience with Network management and anti-virus/anti-spam/anti-spyware software. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations needed: MCSE/MCP certification a plusCommunication Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Must be able to read and interpret routine documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations.Mathematical Skills: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Knowledge of American monetary units required.Other Mental Abilities: Must be able to juggle multiple tasks, follow directions, learn new tasks and information, concentrate, process information quickly, plan ahead, recognize and solve problems, understand concepts, and demonstrate good memory skills. Must utilize good judgment under a variety of circumstances, recognize the need for confidentiality of information, and see the consequences of one's actions. Other Skills needed:Must be able to work individually and as part of a team within general guidelines. Must be able to organize, prioritize, and execute responsibilities in the face of conflicting priorities or unexpected situations without getting flustered. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational and administrative skills, and the ability to follow through on tasks and assignments.Physical Demands:Regularly required to speak clearly and hear the spoken word well. Regularly required to sit for long periods of time. Regularly required to move fingers, wrists, and arms in a repetitive manner as necessary to operate computer workstation and office equipment. Regularly required to utilize near vision ability to read data and documents in printed form and on computer screens.
