Senior Program Manager – ABCnews.com – NYC, NY
The Walt Disney Internet Group is looking for an experienced senior program manager to join our ABC News Digital Media team in New York. The Program Manager will participate in all aspects of the product development life cycle, from defining the strategy and architecture through deployment and support. Successful candidates will have a technical background, be detail driven and have excellent problem solving abilities. This technical expertise should be blended with evangelism, empathy, conflict negotiation skills, and a passion for driving projects through to completion.
Working across multiple groups, including product, editorial, marketing and sales personnel on the business end, program managers translate business requirements into product features and create functional specifications and wireframes. On the implementation end, Program Managers should be able to prioritize and deliver on those features, working closely with key design and technical resources, such as information architects, software developers and QA personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
· The position will require working closely with software development teams, product management teams, marketing teams, editorial teams, and sales teams on translating business requirements into technical requirements, information architecture, wireframes and design comps.
· In this role, the Program Manager will be responsible for scoping and delivering complex solutions, collecting product and business requirements from product managers, writing technical specifications, driving the product development schedule from design to release, making appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, and clearly communicating goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to cross-functional project teams.
· This Program Manager will be responsible for managing a number of projects involving multiple departmental and cross-functional teams.
· Manage large-scale projects and initiatives that extend and enhance the Disney, ABC and ABC News brands.
· The Program Manager will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, balance the business needs versus technical constraints, and encourage risk-taking behavior to maximize business benefit.
Experience/Education Required/Desired:
· Qualified candidates must have 5 to 10 years of experience with a proven track record of delivering large scale, cross functional projects, managing interdisciplinary teams.
· Must have a proven track record of architecting, designing, implementing, delivering and supporting large-scale web sites and platforms, managing customer facing operational functions, and leading technical teams
· Must have excellent project management skills, demonstrated technical aptitude and experience, coupled with great analytical skills, strong business judgment, ability to resolve conflicts and set priorities.
· Candidate must possess solid understanding and practical application of current business intelligence web technologies, object oriented languages, service-oriented architectures, distributed computing, and agile development methods.
· Knowledge and experience with program/project management (PMI, PMP) and software development methodologies using scrum or other agile development technologies
· Candidate must possess a strong technical project management background and demonstrated experience leading medium and large technical engagements
· Possess exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
· Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal listening, communicating, and negotiating skills coupled with ability to comfortably and confidently present to all levels within the enterprise is required
· Must be an independent problem solver that can make high quality judgments and decisions quickly with excellent organization skills
· Must be detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on projects
· Experienced at leading development life cycle process and best practices, significant mentoring in a technical organization.
