PURPOSE OF POSITION
Perform start-up, routine and emergency operation of power plant equipment. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and maintain plant systems. Maintain buildings, grounds and structures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regularly Assigned:
PLANT OPERATIONS:
Monitor and operate plant equipment in accordance with procedures.
1. Monitor and maintain system parameters; monitor and control remote functions; ensure proper operation of combustion turbines.
2. Perform start-up, loading, shutdown and emergency operations in accordance with plant procedures.
3. Understand and observe all plant safety regulations.
4. Maintain plant operating logs and records.
5. Perform water chemistry sampling and testing. Take the necessary action as a result of water chemistry analyses.

MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE:
1. Perform maintenance, diagnosis, repair, install and upkeep heat exchangers, combustion turbines, pumps, valves, piping, compressors and related mechanical equipment.
2. Conduct basic performance tests on plant equipment and record results.
3. Perform oil changes and lubrications.
4. Perform equipment alignments.
5. Repair and maintain facility systems including plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning.

6. Perform welding, cutting, pipefitting, machining, masonry, carpentry, rigging, material handing and painting.

ELECTRICAL AND INSTRUMENTATION:
1. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair plant electrical/pneumatic systems, control systems and facility computers, process control equipment and instrumentation.
2. Install and calibrate instrumentation and control systems.
3. Install, maintain and repair plant electrical components including motors, generators and exciters, meters, motor controllers, transformers, switchgear, high voltage and low voltage distributors, plant lighting and battery systems.

WAREHOUSE/PURCHASING:
1. Maintain computer-based inventory, shipping and receiving system. Prepare purchase requisitions, obtain price quotes, and place orders. Coordinate and maintain on site computer software usage.
2. Load and unload material shipments in accordance with established plant procedures.
3. Know and understand regulations for handling hazardous materials in accordance with established plant procedures.
4. Perform selected duties of the Plant Administrator when necessary.
5. Perform plant and facility housekeeping and cleanup. Work with other plant personnel in the repair of plant equipment. Maintain the warehouse in a neat, orderly and safe manner.

Periodic:
GENERAL PLANT DUTIES:
1. Complete required reports to support operations and maintenance activities.
2. Prepare and write plant procedures.
3. Perform facility maintenance, cleanup and housekeeping.
4. Assist other power plant technicians with equipment repairs.
5. Initiate purchase requisitions for replacement parts, materials, tools, manuals, and reference materials.
6. Assist with receipt, handling and warehousing of shipped materials.
7. Know and understand all plant safety regulations. Report any unusual or unsafe condition to the Plant Superintendent and/or Plant Manager and/or designee as appropriate. Maintain a fire watch, know the location of fire fighting equipment and be able to operate fire-fighting equipment.
8. Operate crane, industrial trucks and other equipment as needed.
9. Assist with fuel handling and sampling.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
High school diploma or recognized equivalent; plus one-year vocational school, certificate in mechanical technology, related military training, or equivalent.

Specialized training:
Specialized training in at least one of the following: Blueprint reading, welding principles, instrumentation, controls or computer systems.
