JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Description: Job purpose
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for the development of projects, within a matrix environment, ensuring projects complete within time and budget and in compliance with engineering and quality standards.
Key-result areas
- Manage the Engineering delivery phase according to the agreed project plan and per the defined COMPANY methodology to reduce overall risks and issues and maximize productivity. Regularly track progress in activity and deliverables completion, and quality levels reached against the plans and take actions to recover any discrepancies.
- Manage the project under the agreed plan and scope; validate all scope changes with the PRB. Generate Change Request Forms as required and obtain appropriate customer and internal approvals, in line with project governance standards. Update project plan as needed. Manage scope changes so that profit margins are maintained or increased.
- Maintain agreed change plan and schedule that incorporates both customer and COMPANY plans.
- Oversee the placing of relevant orders on COMPANY business units, service partners and third party suppliers
- Ensure that the prescribed COMPANY systems development and project management methodology, standards and procedures are adopted.
- Resolve cross project conflicts
- Ensure that regular COMPANY internal project reviews are held and in particular checks that engineering accountabilities to the customer are faithfully and diligently discharged.
- Responsible for project reporting and communication
- Management of vendors that provide offshore resources and/or products.
- Represent the project internally. Communicate and report on project status internally to all stakeholders. Produce regular and accurate progress reports and represent the project status in the Project Review Board meetings. Ensure all project meetings are documented to reduce miscommunication risk and ensure traceability of decisions.
- Identify, analyze and quantify risks and identify issues and take steps to mitigate risks and resolve issues.
- Deploy and manage appropriate project team(s) and contributors according to project requirements: Provide leadership, motivation and direction to the Project team and contributors and monitor performance.
- Manage the project costs within agreed tolerances
- Manage 3rd party suppliers, internal and external, in order to secure the delivery targets.

Decision-making authority:
- Changes to project within project scope.
- Project team staffing.
Staff Budget managed corresponding to Grade 2 or 3 projects:
- Project team, typically 1 to 10 resources.
- Project budgets under $850K with revenues under $2M
Other relevant data :
- Input into performance reviews for team members.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
Education and training:
- University degree or equivalent in house development training
- Good project management training (either externally certified or internally through major IT provider)
- Membership of a recognized Project Management institute preferable
- Formal project management training and certification. - PMP® not mandatory but recommended.
Knowledge and skills:
- Take a pro-active approach to project management
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Familiar with current project management practice and available tools
- Familiar with current IT development practice and available tools
- Ability to assess and manage project risks
- Maintains a general awareness and understanding of technologies and technical trends as they pertain to COMPANYs products and projects.
- Interpersonal skills: confident, strong resilient leader able to motivate staff to meet deadlines
- Customer focused with an emphasis on expectation management
- Ability to make good decisions under time and resource constraints
- Disciplined and methodical
- Good interpersonal communications and negotiating ability
- Operating at Senior levels of both client and own company
- Mature and able to work under tight datelines
- Possesses sound judgmental and decision making skills
- Experience in IT development
- Experienced in managing Third Parties
- Knowledge of basic contract fundamentals desirable
- Knowledge of basic accounting practices and procedures desirable
Technical
- Knowledge of XML/XLST/HTML
- Knowledge of Windows, Java and web technologies.
- Knowledge of airport and airline business, desirable
Experience:
- Ideally 5 years or more in Project Management having managed with a proven PM methodology one or more medium/large sized critical projects with full budget control in a commercial environment.
- Ideally 5 years in IT solutions provider environment with knowledge of COMPANY-like products and underlying technologies.
- Minimum 3 years managing projects in a software development environment
Additional comments
- May require some domestic or international travel
