We are looking for an experienced LAMP developer to bring to life this new web site, both by contributing to the overall creative vision as well as developing well-architected, high-performance software applications. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, innovative problem-solver, able to communicate effectively with technical & non-technical coworkers, report progress openly, and participate actively in project planning meetings.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

• Design, engineer, and document a wide range of LAMP software applications that are easy to integrate and reuse.
• Maintain and augment existing code base.
• Research and recommend open-source and other technology frameworks.
• Design and engineer major applications and components.
• Contribute to system administration:
o Provide maintenance of integration, staging, and production environments.
o Develop clustering, load balancing, and monitoring strategies.
• Define coding standards and best practices.
• Provide real-type operational support for the web site, including detecting and resolving performance problems.
• Work effectively both independently and with a small team of software engineers
• Collaborate with business and editorial stakeholders to create product goals and define development strategies for achieving them. Prototype functionality as needed to advance the conversations.
Experience: • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years web development experience, especially in a LAMP environment.
• 3+ years experience in object-oriented programming, especially PHP. Java or C/C++ experience helpful.
• 3+ years experience using MySQL, especially in a clustered environment. Experience with stored procedures, triggers, views, and transactions in any database desirable.
• Unix proficiency mandatory.
• Facility with HTML, JS, CSS, XML, XSL XPath, regular expressions, shell scripting, and source control.
• Experience with providing XML to Flash applications and integrating a database into Flash applications. Actual Flash development experience a major plus.
• Experience architecting scalable websites, application tuning, building to standards, and system automation. Familiarity with SOA, MVC, and other software design principles.
• Ability to gather and translate functional specs.

The successful candidate must like working in a creative, fast paced environment & be capable of handling multiple requests with a fast production cycle.
