Description
Under limited supervision, administers all aspects of our client's advanced, NetApp SAN systems, a mission-critical functional area of our client's operations. Plans and coordinates SAN system utilization, reporting, maintenance, and performs growth analysis and capacity planning. Performs SAN system and application analysis/design and programming interactions to produce a variety of innovative solutions to complex problems.

While also capable of Linux system administration, this position will specialize in the administration of multiple enterprise SANs.



Experience: Essential Job Functions (Duties to be performed daily):
. Charged with installing, supporting, and maintaining SANs and other computer systems.
. Assists with planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.
. Able to take on a leadership role in project management for systems-related projects.
. Must be able quickly and correctly diagnose problems with computer systems and introduce the best way to fix the problem.
. Proficient in scripting or light programming on LINUX systems.
. Evaluates and/or recommends purchases; has strong influence on purchasing process.
. Responsible for keeping SAN operating 24x7x365 without customer outages. Oversees preventive maintenance and testing
. May supervise or train other SAN System Administrators
. Able to support a 24x7 staffing model which includes weekends and Holidays.


Non-essential Job Functions (Education, training, or certification):
. Bachelor of Computer Science preferred, minimum two years of college or equivalent post-high school education or experience
. 5+ years System Administration / SAN Administration experience
. RHCE, LPI, CCNA, MySQL, SAN Certifications or other related certifications a plus

Skills and Requirements :
. 3+ years experience with Enterprise SAN environment. Familiar with block level access using FC and iSCSI, Director class FC switches in an High Availability environment.
. Knowledge of linux and driver interaction. NetApp experience a strong plus.
. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing purchase justifications, training users in complex topics, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.
. Independent problem-solving, self-direction.
. Comfortable with most aspects of operating system administration; for example, configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software.
. Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS, key-based ssh; can use nslookup or dig to check information in DNS; understands basic routing concepts.
. Has a solid understanding of a Linux (or UNIX)-based operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions).
. Generally knows several programming languages used for scripting or automation of routine tasks. (bash, Perl, PHP).
