BASIC FUNCTION:As part of M&T’s Data Center Operations the Computer Operator I, would participate in the performance of all batch jobs on the IBM mainframe and the processing of special requestsRESPONSIBILITIES:The incumbent will effectively utilize console commands to monitor system performance.Enters processing exceptions into Problem Management system with all pertinent details and information to assist in problem resolution.Supplies Production Controllers with complete details regarding failures or Production processes and assists in the recovery process as needed.Maintain accurate accounts of online, system and equipment outages on designated forms and utilizing online problem systems for documentation of such events.Monitors Change and Problem Management reports to maintain required awareness of the processing environment.Functions as a backup for the Computer Operator II and Peripheral Operator in his/her absence. Assist in the Tape Library during staff shortages and high volume periods.Field telephone calls as necessary for the Help Desk and NCC off-hour periods as needed.Participate in the semiannual/annual Disaster Recovery Test.Enforces Data Center security procedures and reports any violation to Supervisory Personnel.Maintains clear and accurate communication with Help Desk, Production Controllers, Support Groups, NCC and Management when problems or abnormal events have occurred which have or could affect system performance.Provide 1st level support on any processing errors or environmental issues, utilizing our monitoring tools such as: OPS/MVS, NetView, Netcool, Omegamon, CA7, Service Center, Filenet.Assist Systems personnel as needed with timely completion of special requests.Provide cross training to other Peripheral Operators as needed.Provide necessary problem solving and debug hardware problems and escalate to next level of support as necessary.Make necessary calls to our Service Vendors for service on Hardware or Software when problems arise.Utilize existing documentation for operating procedures and report any inaccuracies or deficiencies that may exist.Ability to work 12.5 hour shifts with varying days/hours, as well as Holidays and weekends. Overtime as requiredBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Requires one-year Data Processing experienceSolid PC experienceSolid Knowledge of MVS/ESA operating systems and/or softwareExcellent written and verbal communication skills necessaryMinimum of a High School diplomaGood interpersonal skills/TeamworkMust be able to work 8:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m. on any day (could potentially work through to 6:00 a.m. from time to time to cover for vacations, Holidays, weekends, other)IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:A good knowledge base of the Report Distribution systemKnowledge of MVS/JES2 a plusKnowledge of Windows workstationsKnowledge of TPX and Service Center
