BASIC FUNCTION:As part of Technology Infrastructure the Sr. UNIX Systems Engineer would be responsible for the planning, design and administration of IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, and Linux-based server installations. This includes installation and maintenance of the base operating systemRESPONSIBILITIES:Would provide day-to-day system administration support including usage monitoring, security administration, operating system and software installations, initial system configuration, and coordination/administration of system backups.Prepare and review system activity, security, and performance reports to ensure that systems are meeting availability and performance objectives. Provide ongoing trend data for determining current needs and future resource requirements.Provide recommendations to management on system upgrades, vendor products, and system enhancementsParticipate in and/or lead technology projects to successful completionDevelop, test, and implement a Disaster Recovery Plan for each supported UNIX System.Use skills and available resources to develop clear, complete technical and functional specifications and related documentation for the products and services supportedProvide technical consultation services and analyze project requirements to develop supportable solutions to fulfill business needsWorks with technical, operational and functional areas to answer questions, resolve problems, and identify opportunities for efficiency gainsProvide on-call support, as needed, to support the systems under their area of responsibilityBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Four-year college degree with a minimum of three years technical UNIX experience or five years technical experience with UNIX and LINUX operating systems, such as AIX, Solaris, or Red HatAble to effectively manage multiple tasks concurrentlyKnowledge of the systems development lifecycle and related project management methodologiesSolid knowledge of networking and network protocols in a UNIX environmentIDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:Ten years administrative and engineering experience with IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, or Linux operating systemsExperience running Linux on IBM Power and/or Mainframe hardwareA thorough understanding of IBM P Series and Sun SPARC hardware architecture, including an understanding of paging/swapping, inter-process communication, devices drivers, security, package administration, performance monitoring and tuningThe ability to write scripts in Perl, Korn, and/or C shellsExperience with Unix Clustering
