Utility Shared Services, an Energy East Company, is looking for a Lead Analyst - Desktop Planning for its Rochester, NY location.JOB SUMMARY:Under general direction, you will provide technical expertise and team leadership on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprises desktop hardware, software and systems architecture. You will support desktop applications, including productivity tools, e-mail, and applications that are used by groups without programming customization. This position is for a Senior Desktop Systems Engineer. You will provide strategic planning and vision for the corporate desktop/laptop architecture and standards as well as technical leadership for other members of the Desktop Management team.MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Facilitates the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines for the design of technology solutions including the integration of multiple platforms, operating systems and applications across the enterprise.Reviews, advises and designs standard software and hardware builds, system options, risks, cost vs. benefits and impact on the enterprise business process and goals.Specifics of the desktop domain: desktop equipment and support, determining user needs and incorporating them into the design and overall plan for desktop support.Supports desktop problem resolution, setup integrating tests and installation.Monitors and analyzes performance metrics and ensure they are met. Evaluates and provides techniques for increasing user desktop productivity.Organizes, coordinates, and project manages the installation, deployment and upgrade of software, hardware and network facilities as it relates to the desktop environment.Develops and documents the framework for changes to technical standards and processes. Assists in the development and management of an architecture governance process.Tracks industry trends and maintains knowledge of new technologies to better serve the enterprises desktop architecture needs.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Skills/Abilities:Strong written and oral communication skills.Strong customer focus.Project management skillsMinimum of five years of practical technical support experience in a medium to large enterprise computing environment. Expert-level skills at troubleshooting complex technical client/server issues.Expert level in configuring, supporting and troubleshooting Windows XP client operating systems. Significant experience with Microsoft Active Directory, and Group Policy management.Experience with desktop image creation and deployment using an automated system. Experience with Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) a plus. Working knowledge of MSI packaging technologies, VMWare virtualization technologies, Citrix, Altiris, and Terminal Services or equivalent systems required.Knowledge of Microsoft scripting technologies and components (Shell, WMI, .NET, XML) and the use of tools such as VBScript, C++, and Batch Files a plus. Proven ability to provide technical guidance and solutions to support team members in multiple locations. Occasional travel to other Energy East locations.Experience/Training:7-10 years of IT work experience, including specific industry experience.Proficient in multiple desktop Operating systems: Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, XP, and Vista.Understanding of typical desktop standards and software packaging and deployment strategies.Education and/or ExperienceBachelors degree in computer science or equivalent experience with 6+ years experience in desktop/laptop configuration management and applications support.Microsoft MCSE or MCSE-track certifications a strong plusABOUT ENERGY EASTEnergy East Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is a respected super regional energy services and delivery company that our customers can depend upon every day.
