Clinical Data Coordinator Clinical Data Coordinator - Skills Required - RHIA/RHIT,HIM,ICD9-CM,coding,DRG/APC grouping schemes, Clinical Data CoordinatorWhat you will be doing:Coordinates activities of the technical and professional staff to ensure accuracy and integrity and compliance of data in accordance with regulatory standards and hospital revenue initiatives. Participates in revenue cycle initiatives providing expertise and in the area of coding and classification systems, and impact on reimbursement.ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK1. Functions as HIM liaison on revenue initiatives, benchmarking, and projects providing expertise in coding and grouping of schemes with impact on reimbursement and overall case mix index, documentation, revenue cycle, and revenue enhancement for the organization.2. Serves as liaison to Documentation Improvement, Service Lines, clinical, ancillary, financial, administrative departments establishing criteria to meet documentation requirements, reporting, data collection, to maintain data accuracy and integrity and facilitate the highest degree of diagnostic and procedural coding, and DRG/APC assignment to meet clinical, financial, operation needs assuring compliance and regulatory standards are met.3. Performs internal/external coding and DRG/APC validation reviews to assure compliance with established coding principles and documentation guidelines to ensure data integrity, quality and the impact on revenue targets, case mix, LOS, etc. Performs proactive reviews of coding, DRG/APC assignment based on regulatory changes identifying areas as part of revenue cycle activities and planning. Performs other reviews as part of Performance Improvement and Service Excellence. 4. Monitors and maintains weekly revenue cycle reports within targeted goals, identifying areas for focus and communicating with other hospital and ancillary departments regarding cases not related to HIM. Serves as liaison to revenue cycle groups to report findings, making recommendations for improvements5. Serves as liaison with compliance vendor related to discrepancies in coding and DRG/APC assignment prior to billing. Resolves discrepancies in data from vendor against technical staff assignment. Provides feedback to technical and professional staff as appropriate or refers back to vendor as appropriate.6. Develops educational programs related focusing on coding principles, documentation requirements, impacting hospital reimbursement and revenue for staff in Clinical Data Services, Documentation Improvement, Service Lines, Hospital clinical and ancillary departments, focusing on documentation elements and guidelines that reflect complete and accurate information in the medical record and result in accurate coding, data integrity, compliance and reimbursement.7. Coordinates the activities of technical and professional staff providing work direction to ensure accuracy and completeness of diagnostic and procedural coding. Ensures consistent application of compliance standards by staff.8. Maintains productivity levels and turnaround timeframes in accordance with Hospital requirements.9. Generates productivity, research, financial, quality and statistical reports on coding and DRG/APC data as appropriate. Analyzes data from reports and disseminates to appropriate management with recommendations as applicable related to operations and revenue cycle. Provides feedback as needed to staff.10. Maintains knowledge base of coding changes, DRG/APC schemes, regulatory changes/requirements, documentation, reimbursement, reporting requirements, data collection needs, etc., and incorporates into ongoing education with technical and professional HIM staff, and Documentation Improvement, Service Lines, physicians on changes, with instructional information to incorporate principles into workflow and documentation to meet revenue initiatives and ultimate hospital reimbursement.11. Performs other duties as assigned12. Participates in the recruitment and orientation of Clinical Data Services staff, prepares performance evaluations, recommends hiring, promotions, disciplinary actions and terminations as appropriate. 13. Initiates regular contact or networking with employees, physicians, and other professionals not employed by the hospital on similar projects, benchmarking, etc in accordance with hospital strategies.14. Maintains educational level and credentialing within field.What you need to have:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCECCS Required; RHIA/RHIT preferred. 3-5 years HIM experience essential, preferably in an acute care, academic, computerized environment. 2-3 years demonstrated coding experience required with focus on complex case mix.
