IT Business Analyst in New York, NY

A large financial company located in midtown Manhattan is looking to add a consultant to work as an IT Business Analyst for a 6 month + contract. Candidate must have previous financial services experience! Job Description: This position is for an IT Business Analyst with particular responsibility for Accounting Standards. The main responsibilities include: . Lead planning and execution of Business Analysis, with particular focus on application conformance to accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) . Assist in execution at project level as for any BA related task including, but not exclusively: o Initiation, Definition, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Reporting . Develop effective working relationships with subject matter experts and peer business analysts. . Understand, document and manage the business and functional requirements. . Provide input that enables the development team can design and build a viable solution and that the quality assurance team can verify that the proposed solution addresses requirements. . Business Requirement including current state flows, business objectives and details as to what are the requirements for each business function that the system is expected to support. . Conform to and drive adoption of project standards (e.g., Systems Development Lifecycle, Global Solutions Delivery) for business analysis and documentation . Identify and assure quality of key deliverables in the execution of the project . Insure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g, Sarbanes-Oxley) as they relate to information systems . Assess and improve processes, tools, and techniques used in the project life cycle. . Manage dependencies with other initiatives to ensure that the team's Knowledge Base stays current . Mentor/cross-train other team members . Gain understanding of Repo/Securities Lending/Collateral Management businesses. . Work effectively with team members in other locations situated globally. . Possibility of occasional travel to Raleigh, London or Singapore for meetings with business clients and/or project team members. Qualifications: Professional Background: . Five or more years of experience as a Business Analyst in a Financial Services environment, with a focus on Accounting and Accounting Standards (e.g., US GAAP, Swiss GAAP). . Fixed Income/trading system experience preferred, Repo experience is a plus. . Hands on experience working in a structured application development environment, using traditional "waterfall" or "agile" approaches. . Experience with Use Case, UML, Data Flows, Case Diagrams, Logical Data Models and Activity Diagrams . Experience with process improvement methodologies like 6-Sigma Lean Sigma, CMMi etc. is a plus. . Working knowledge of issue/defect tracking tools . Bachelor's or Master's degree, with concentration in accounting. Professional Qualities: . Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment is essential. Candidate must have attention to detail; have the ability to work independently and also as part of a group; possess excellent communication skills and inter-personal skills; have a willingness to learn new skills and do whatever is necessary to "get the job done".
