Information Services Consultant, Win 7, IE in New York, NY

This is a contract engagement located at the client site that will be through December 2010. This Consultant will aid as the technical liaison in the deployment of Windows 7 throughout the client organization. The Consultant will provide advanced client system administration skills covering a broad range of disciplines and/or technical design, development and automation at an enterprise level for the Windows 7 Microsoft Operating System with IE8 expertise.

Applicants must be experienced in computing environments that use Microsoft Windows 7 as a desktop operating system in an enterprise environment. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in the IT field, as well as experience implementing and administering any Windows client operating system in a networked environment. Candidates should be able to install, deploy, and upgrade to Windows 7, including ensuring hardware and software compatibility. Additionally, candidates should be able to configure pre-installation and post-installation system settings, Windows security features, network connectivity applications included with Windows 7, and mobile computing. Candidates should also be able to maintain systems, including monitoring for and resolving performance and reliability issues. Candidates should have a basic understanding of Windows PowerShell syntax.

Responsibilities:
Installs and configures hardware and software products on support systems, including vendor supplied communication software products (terminal emulators, proxies, firewalls, etc.)
Installs, configures and performs daily operational tasks associated with Client Server Applications at an Enterprise level
Designs, installs, configures and coordinates all Microsoft Windows 7 and IE8
Client application integration, updates and functionality
Installs, configures and performs daily patching of Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems
Installs, configures and performs daily operational tasks to secure the enterprise servers/client using the Symantec EndPoint Security Suite of products
Uses statistical tools to monitor system performance and resource utilization of installed systems, and project impact of future systems
Uses system-monitoring tools to optimize system performance and perform degradation analysis
Develops and documents operational procedures for supported systems and user interfaces appropriate to the end user of the systems developed
Troubleshoots, coordinates, assists and advises in recovery from component failures of supported systems
Performs diagnosis of complex communication problems
Develops technical drawings that illustrate abstract technical concepts, architectures, infrastructures, and strategies
Understands, complies with and executes all company change control, technical standards and guidelines
Experience: 3+ years experience in IT with 2 years in a Tier 3 technical support role
3+ years experience with Microsoft Enterprise Applications
2+ years experience with Client Operating Systems (Vista with compatibility migration and XP)
2+ years experience with Client Operating Systems (IE7 with IE8 compatibility migration)
2+ years experience with Server and Client Security techniques and operations
Windows 7 and IE8 preferred focus and experience to comply with Project Goal to Implement Enterprise Wide
Extensive experience utilizing Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010
Ability to create and modify Windows 7 Image files (WIM)
Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit
Application Testing strategy
Application compatibility testing with a new version of the Windows operating system
Standard Users testing - Elevation of privileges
User State Migration Toolkit
Utilizing Application Shims
Windows Automated Installation kit (AIK)
Extensive background with Microsoft Vista/Windows 7 including kernel issues, advantages and deployment
Working knowledge of protocols and procedures specific to client side operations including testing and installation of Microsoft Patches and updates, application drivers, OS Kernels, etc.
Working knowledge of Server/Client based security strategies and execution using Symantec Endpoint specific utilities
Must be able to:
Perform a clean installation of Windows 7, upgrade to Windows 7, and migrate user-related data and settings from an earlier version of Windows
Configure disks, partitions, volumes, and device drivers to enable a Windows 7 client computer
Configure file access and printers on a Windows 7 client computer
Configure network connectivity on a Windows 7 client computer
Configure wireless network connectivity on a Windows 7 client computer
Secure Windows 7 client desktop computers
Optimize and maintain the performance and reliability of a Windows 7 client computer
Configure mobile computing and remote access settings for a Windows 7 client computer
Add a Windows 7 desktop to an active network
Configure Windows 7 for an Active Directory environment
Configure the Windows 7 IT Pro tools and applications
Use Windows 7 remote capabilities and utilities
Configure Windows 7 remote access and remote capabilities
Secure the Windows 7 desktop
Configure and use the User account control in various network profiles
Configure Windows 7 third-party applications
Monitor and troubleshoot Windows 7 computers for problems with the operating system, hardware, network security, and applications
