Position Title: Director of Information Technology

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer


The Director of Information Technology has responsibility for planning, maintaining, and enhancing College Art Association's use of computer, Internet, telecommunications and other technologies. S/he is also responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of all CAA data that is stored electronically. This is a senior-staff position, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. The incumbent will participate actively in meetings of the senior staff, and will provide guidance and recommendations on the use and application of technology, information management systems, statistics, and survey research.

The Director of Information Technology supervises the Information Technology Specialist in providing technical and application support to staff and other users of CAA information systems.

Responsibilities of the Director of Information technology also include, but are not limited to:

Network Systems Management and Administration: Establish and maintain written standards and procedures to ensure the continuous smooth operation and functioning of CAA's networks, hardware, and software applications; supervise maintenance, and upkeep of all hardware and software; prepare and follow a written schedule for the timely replacement and upgrade of hardware and software components to avoid disruptions to CAA operations and member services; evaluate CAA's use of currently-available technology, and work with the CFO to plan the purchase and installation of needed upgrades and/or additions to the association's hardware and software inventory.

Information Systems Management and Administration: Plan, manage, and maintain CAA's information- and data-processing systems; manage relationships with outside IT consultants and vendors to ensure that all needed maintenance, modifications, and component replacements are completed on-time, on-budget, and according to specifications; assist departments in planning and executing, as requested, appropriate field survey research, analyzing research data, and interpreting statistical reports; work with the CFO to develop operating and capital budgets to fund the ongoing operations and development of CAA's information and data processing systems.

Internet and E-Commerce: Assist the Director of Web Development to plan, maintain, and develop the infrastructure and logistical support behind CAA's web site and other Internet activity; plan, manage and develop e-commerce capabilities and functions; provide technical assistance and support to all CAA functions in their use of the Internet and/or e-commerce; analyze and evaluate CAA's use of currently-available technology, and work with the CFO and the Director of Web Development to plan the purchase and installation of upgrades to the association's Internet-based operations; plan and manage relationships with outside IT consultants and vendors engaged for Internet and/or e-commerce functions to optimize their performance and minimize down time of CAA's web site and other Internet activity.

Training: Assess at regular intervals the training needs among users of CAA information systems; plan, design, and conduct or arrange for appropriate instruction with outside vendors or consultants as needed; maintain and update user manuals for all software applications.

Annual Conference: Plan and design appropriate solutions for the IT needs of all CAA staff and functions at the Annual Conference; manage the set-up, operation, and "take-down" of hardware and software systems on-site; perform other duties and tasks on-site as needed or assigned.
