Our client is a Global Media Company and they are looking for a Desktop Architect to join their Global team based in Manhattan.

The Global Desktop Architect is responsible for the design, architecture, and oversight of the global end-user computing environment. Responsibilities include desktop operating system and hardware standardization, communicating and enforcing these standards across the enterprise, software packaging and delivery, and evaluating and designing new products and services affecting end-user systems.

A successful candidate should have 5-7 years of experience managing desktop and end-user computing in a secure global environment. This person will be the 'Subject Matter Expert' for all desktop platforms, desktop hardware, and software distribution.

This position also requires an in-depth understanding of Active Directory, group policy objects, patch management, virus protection, data encryption, and VPN access.

In addition to possessing excellent technical skills, candidates should have solid project management skills, as well as good verbal and written communication skills.


Job Responsibilities:
- Act as a subject matter expert for all desktop platforms, specifically Windows XP and Vista.
- Define global desktop operating system standards and communicate these standards to regional and local IT management.
- Define global desktop hardware standards and communicate these standards to regional and local IT management.
- Evaluate and design solutions for new products and services affecting the end-user computing environment.
- Work closely with the global Applications Development team to package and securely deliver proprietary applications.
- Install, configure and test 3rd party and proprietary applications in a locked down desktop environment.
- Deliver and maintain up-to-date documentation on processes and procedures related to end-user computing.
- Keep current on emerging desktop technologies and trends, and make recommendations when applicable.
- Create and manage test plans for new products and services.
- Facilitate the patching of global desktops and laptops.
- Automate complex functions through scripting.


Job Requirements:
While every effort will be made to respect the employees privacy and personal time, the position will require the candidate to perform maintenance as well as respond to critical situations after normal business hours or during weekends (Saturday or Sunday).
A mobile phone for use in critical situations will also be necessary and is expected to be reachable upon being called.

Must have 5+ years of experience with:
- Windows XP
- Active Directory
- Desktop products from IBM (Lenovo) and HP
- In depth knowledge of Core Build engineering - Unattend, Ghost, Sysprep, software and driver integration.
- Group Policy creation and management.
- Patchlink or other global patching tools.
- Symantec Antivirus or other enterprise antivirus products.
- Demonstrated ability writing installation packages using software repackaging software (i.e. InstallShield, Wise).
- VB scripting skills a plus


In addition, candidate must possess the following:
- Ability to understand, configure, and install third party enterprise software
Experience in designing, rolling out and supporting hardened desktops (i.e., users are not local administrators).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Visio.
- Solid project management skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and analytical ability.
- Excellent customer communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work for self and/or small team independently.
- Ability to resolve complex problems seeking guidance when necessary.
- Be able to travel internationally and hold a valid passport.


Education Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college
