Job Summary
ESPN Digital Media is seeking a Senior Technical Producer/Web Developer who will adapt, analyze, design and develop the underlying subsystems that will power the digital media products (mobile, video and online) that ESPN delivers internationally.
This is an excellent opportunity for an avid sports fan with solid, hands-on technology expertise to help conceptualize and build new rich media broadband, mobile, and online products to extend ESPN’s worldwide brand recognition.
The ideal candidate must have a can-do attitude and possess a demonstrable track record of working successfully with a cross-functional team of technical producers, designers, engineers, editors and business stakeholders to create innovative, consumer-facing products. This person must be a self-motivated, team player who can drive his/her own work as well as the work of others while keeping an eye to the overall business objectives of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
Develop online rich media applications using Flash Actionscript (AS3 ideal),
Develop and integrate cross-platform features and functionality using custom server side scripting languages and other web technologies such as HTML, JavaScript, AJAX and XML
Integrate and customize third party software solutions, to support international product requirements, advertising, and reporting
Integrate APIs to support data retrieval and consolidation in ESPN 360 international products
Provide technical support and maintenance of internationally deployed ESPN products working with internal stakeholders and third parties
Produce technical documentation such as system specifications
Work closely with ESPN Digital Media teams to ensure new products features align with the overall architecture for easy maintenance and scalability
Assist in the technical analysis and evaluation of new technologies, products, and product enhancements
Experience: Required Qualifications
• BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree
• 2-4 years of hands-on development experience using structured programming language such as C/C++, Javascript, ASP, JSP, PHP, etc,
• 2-4 years of professional experience, preferably with a consumer-oriented company developing large-scale products
• Programming skills in Flash technologies and architecture, including Flash video (FLV) and Actionscript (AS3 ideal)
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming languages (preferably Java) and multi-tier web architectures
• Good understanding of benefits and constraints of current Internet technologies and comfort with coding in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Flash. DHTML is a very strong plus
• Experience writing technical specs and driving them through development
• Ability to operate effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment
• Strong communication skills
• Passion for sports and strong desire to learn/follow international business and sports (i.e. soccer, rugby, cricket)
• Spanish-speaking or bilingual a plus
