BASIC FUNCTION:As part of Technology Infrastructure division the UNIX Systems Engineer will provide the foundation for sound technical decision-making and control within the Web services component. The position duties will include the development of the architecture and support of the Web server component hardware and software. Primary responsibilities will include the mentoring and leadership of other Web services based staff as well as providing a level of mentoring to development staff.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the planning, design and administration of AIX, Sun Solaris and Linux-based computer server installations within a client/server system environment. This may include installation and maintenance of the operating system.Provide day-to-day system administration support including usage monitoring, security administration, operating system and software installations, initial system setups, coordination and administration of system backups.Prepare and review system activity, progress, security, and performance reports to ensure that systems are meeting availability and performance objectives. Provides ongoing trend data for determining current needs and future resource requirements.Provide a recommendation to management on system upgrades, vendor products and system enhancements.Participate in and/or lead technology projects to successful completion.Develop, test and implement a Disaster Recovery Plan for each supported UNIX System.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors degree or above in a field of technology or 5+ years of professional experience in a related technical environment8-10 years administrative and engineering experience with Sun Solaris and/or AIX.1-3 years administrative and engineering experience with Rhedhat.A thorough understanding of Sun Sparc and IBM P Series hardware architecture and understanding of paging and swapping, inter-process communication; devices; device drivers; security; package administration; performance and tuning.The ability to write scripts in Perl, Korn, and/or C shells.Knowledge of general security issues (i.e., passwords, uids/gids, file permissions, file system integrity, use of security packages).Solid knowledge of networking and network protocols in a UNIX environment.IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:10 years administrative and engineering experience with Sun Solaris.10 years administrative and engineering experience with AIX.5 years administrative and engineering experience with Rhedhat.Experience running Linux on IBM Power and/or Mainframe hardware.Experience with NCR Imaging Applications.Experience wit Unix Clustering (AIX HACMP, Veritas).
