Sr Process/Tool Engineer Description: This position is responsible for the design, build and implementation of production processes, tooling; machining fixtures, assembly and test fixtures, cutting tools, gages, etc. Included is the responsibility to develop and implement CNC programs on production machining equipment and secondary operations such as de-burr, wash, inspect, and package. A major emphasis in this position, in addition to the technical aspects, is to take on a strong leadership role in the entire tool/program development cycle making sure all operational targets and quality expectations are met. One is expected to lead the definition, planning and implementation phase of assigned projects and to lead and/or supervise assigned internal or external resources. Responsibilities: Design production tooling, fixtures, cutting tools, assembly/test devices, etc, and develop CNC programs on production machining equipment. These tools and CNC programs shall be developed and implemented in production with an emphasis on maximizing utilization and efficiency of capital equipment and direct labor. Included in this duty is to specify, obtain, and manage any outside purchased items, tool design services, and/or tool build services that are needed to supports the design, build and prove-out phase of tooling or CNC program development. (60%) Lead, in a team environment, the daily activities of internal tool design, build, and short cycle machining resources. Included in this duty, in addition to providing technical support and supervision, would be to provide guidance and direction in establishing priorities, setting standards, monitoring results, leading efforts for continuous improvements, and to provide costing data relating to tool design, tool build, CNC program development, etc. (20%) Lead the effort in the implementation phase of fixtures, tools, gages, and CNC programs in production. Responsible for all aspects of the implementation phase including making sure effective coordination between all departments is attained along with minimizing any effect the implementation may have on production and/or customer service expectations. (10%) Lead, in a team environment, tooling aspects of new product introduction, shop floor problem solving, quality improvements, continuous improvement programs, lean manufacturing and six sigma projects. (10%) Requirements: Bachelor Degree, mechanical engineering or equivalent Ten years job related experience; designing tooling using AutoCAD, programming CNC machining centers, sound tool design principles; metal removal techniques on CNC machining equipment; geometric dimensioning; and analytical problem solving skills; Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with a good knowledge of the skills and capabilities of toolmakers and machinists. Green belt or equivalent experience using Six Sigma tools during problem solving and communicating. Solid knowledge of lean principles and their applications in industry. Strong and effective communication abilities demonstrated in both a union and non-union environment.
