An International manufacturer and wholesaler of consumer goods seeks an AS/400 Java/J2EE Application Architect at their New York City corporate headquarters. RESPONSIBILITIES: Drive the design and construction of complex business problems into innovative technology solutions. Be a hands-on coder and proactively mentor developers. Involved in a high energy team focused on full life-cycle development. Manage development teams of 5 to 10 people, mostly offshore, from project definition through implementation. Assume responsibility for overall design and implementation, using the latest tools available. Create complex, enterprise-transforming business applications. Facilitate the functional and detailed design to enable the coding to be done in-house or to be outsourced. Must help create and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). This position may include international travel. REQUIREMENTS: 5+ years of experience combining analysis, design, development and implementation of large-scale systems (OO and /or distributed component based). Strong development experience with OO languages such as Java, (J2EE), C++, EAI technologies (MQ Series) and XML. Strong knowledge of design patterns, refactoring and unit testing. Agile Methodology knowledge, such as Extreme Programming (XP) & SCRUM. Leadership experience in assessing staff skill levels, assigning work appropriately, directing team in specific project activities, estimation, and facilitating career development. Experience with AS/400 Webshere Application Server is a must. Experience in customer-facing and vendor-facing web-base & windows-base systems which involve costing and building, sales and order fulfillment. Experience with Rational Software Architect or RequsitPro is a plus. Experience with RPG is a plus. An academic background in Computer Science, Business or Engineering.
