Database Administrator
Scope:
Plan, organize and implement DBA projects in support of growing information demands from business units throughout the company.
The successful candidate will establish overall direction for the function and set priorities, goals, objectives and timelines for the delivery of standardized and Ad-Hoc report requests.
This individual will ensure the effective use of departmental resources and will contribute to setting policies for effective process planning as it relates to developing new DB report requirements.
The successful candidate is expected to have expert knowledge of the SQL environment, with particular emphasis on planning, analysis, design and implementation of reports and report interfaces intended for end user facilitation of requested information.
The DBA will be required to plan and execute projects for multiple requests to meet project deadlines often initiated by the companys clients.
This resource will maintain awareness of technologies and sets overall priority, schedules and direction for delivery of report requirements.
The position requires significant participation in short term tactical planning and implementation and will contribute to long term strategic planning.
Interfacing with a Linux Database system (Utilizing PostgreSQL Scripting with PHP) the satisfactory candidate will engage in gathering requirements, designing and developing standardized report sets by department to enable executive and staff personnel to retrieve information necessary to make business decisions in their various functions. Additionally, occasional and sometimes frequent, Ad-Hoc requests will be submitted and the successful candidate will need to analyze the request, document its receipt, prepare and document specifications, provide estimates for response and provide user documentation if applicable. The DBA will also need to be able to review and scope third party tools for reporting and analytical use, determine viability and efforts for implementation.
Reporting, Supervision and Evaluation:
Reports to Director of Customer Operations or Support.
Receives direction in terms of goals and areas of responsibility.
Is monitored on overall progress and results for assigned projects.
Additionally evaluated on individual contributions including initiative, motivation, dedication and interaction with other team members.
This position places high emphasis on ability to communicate verbally and with written skills, as well as tactical and strategic plan contributions.
Other:
Works within the operations organization and is expected to work with internal users to develop decision support and analytic outputs based on standard business need and Ad-Hoc requests.
Responsibility for Others:
Will work independently but interact regularly with other team members.
Background and Experience:
· Is proficient in the development of business information interfaces
· Expert knowledge of SQL
· Experience with large volumes of data
· Experience and knowledge of OLTP & OLAP
· Understanding of standard Linux tools and PHP a plus
· Excellent verbal and written skills
· Capable and comfortable and could, if necessary, represent the company to outsiders
5 + years minimum experience in related technology platforms, a BS in computer science, and an advanced degree is desired.Want to learn more about us?
