BASIC FUNCTION:As part of M&T’s Technology Infrastructure the Capacity Planning Specialist would be part of a team that would be responsible for a variety of projects around the mainframe. RESPONSIBILITIES:The individual will conduct trend analysis and make proactive capacity planning recommendations to mitigate risk and rationalize the optimal amount of hardware, software and network resources to meet service level requirements in a timely and cost effective manner. Provide assessment, documentation, prioritization and execution of existing and required tools. Develop methodologies and task plans to meet capacity planning requirementsPerforms complex special studies and data analysis. Determines optimum methodology for retrieving and analyzing current and historical dataConducts research, provides analysis and makes recommendations regarding management initiatives. Assists in the definition of problems and issues through the use of analytical techniquesCoordinates operational and strategic materials for TI management in support of major programs and processesDevelops models to analyze operational performance data and support ongoing reporting processBASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors degree or above in Mathematics, Statistics or Information Technology or have 5+ years experience in a relevant environmentExperience in platform capacity planning, performance metrics and analysisExperience in mainframe and distributed workload forecasting, performance turning and resource monitoringExperience with SMF/RMF analysis, MICS, MXG & SAS codingExperience with Windows & UNIX based technologies such as Java/C coding, Oracle, Solaris or LinuxExperience with industry standard capacity/performance data collection tools, SAS programming, C/C++/VB/Perl/HTML scripting, programming or equivalent development languageData management and automation skillsSolid written and verbal communication skills to be able to present to target audienceIDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:Experience working on mainframe and distributed systems in the area of capacity management, performance tuning, resource monitoring and forecasting systems usage including bottlenecks and potential problem situationsSystem modeling skills and experience using third party modeling packages such as Metron Athene to create and validate models and determine when resources will be required to maintain such level agreementsIntermediate to advanced level statistical analysis skillsExperience using graph-generating tools such as ExcelAn understanding of how the various system metrics interactUnderstanding of basic queuing theory Understanding of how database design affects dataset application and server performanceUnderstanding of operating system internals, such as memory organization and managementExperience participating of leading efforts to identify root cause in large complex multi technology networked applications
