Job Description RF Technician position to fulfill RF development, test and measurement needs of the RF Engineering Group - this involving PCB, module and system level performance verification. The technician will be responsible for independently conducting measurements, debugging and re-working hardware at PCB, module and system level. Test set-ups may need to be developed as well. Position Summary The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering Research & Development team responsible for conducting automated and manual tests of RF/antenna subsystems containing GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS and RFID technology in support of various product development activities. The successful candidate's responsibilities will include: Assist Design Engineers in development of new circuits by performing electrical/RF circuit prototyping and breadboard construction Troubleshoot new & existing products and test issues over a wide range of RF technologies Building prototype devices for antenna and RF testing Setup standard test apparatus or devise test equipment setups and circuitry to conduct functional and/or operational tests in order to evaluate performance and reliability of designs Adjust, calibrate, align, modify circuitry and components and record effects on unit performance Analyze and interpret test data Write technical reports, develop charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate a system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations Maintain project files and notebooks in an organized manner Maintain lab equipment and supplies needed for product development Operate RF/Anechoic chambers using established test procedures or ad-hoc methods Essential Skills and Qualifications A.A.S. Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent and sufficient relevant practical lab experience 5+ years related experience as an Engineering Technician performing duties similar to the essential functions of this Job Description At least two plus (2+) years of digital test experience Proven working knowledge of RF electronics and systems, and RF and microwave test and measurement techniques is required Proficient in schematic and PCB layout interpretation Strong manual dexterity skills (ie, soldering & assembly of small SMT components and assemblies) Extensive experience with RF test and measurement equipment using proper RF calibration techniques; specifically, wireless communication testers, Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Vector Signal Analyzers, generators, power meters, etc. Proficiency with general-purpose measurement equipment, such as: DVM, oscilloscope, DC power supply, etc. Experience with remote control of measurement instruments through GPIB, LAN and USB I/O interfaces Ability to implement test automation Assets Previous Telecommunications industry experience Experience with automated test development software such as Labview Basic knowledge of radio technologies such as GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, WLAN, Bluetooth, GPS or RFID Familiarity with Anechoic chambers, TEM-cells and/or SATIMO OTA measurement systems Previous experience performing TRP/TIS OTA measurements Familiarity with antenna concepts Proficiency in troubleshooting & resolving radio receiver desensitization issues using common RF techniques Highly adaptable and comfortable working in a team-oriented environment Effective communication; oral, written and interpersonal skills Highly motivated team player with good problem solving skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks Ability to learn quickly and contribute new ideas to the team Detail-oriented Other Responsibilities Perform other job-related duties as assigned Apex Systems, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages minority and female applicants to apply.
