Description Our Client, a lading technology service provider to the alternative investment industry, is seeking a senior network engineer. Fulltime Position Location: New York , NY The senior network engineering position calls for a highly self-motivated individual with broad expertise in all areas of network, computer, and telecommunication technologies. The position requires a ?hands on? and proactive approach to keep client systems running at premium Service Level Agreement standards. Additionally, the role demands an individual possessing true leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be required to work within a tightly aligned team of 2nd and 3rd level technicians to ensure world class levels of service and unparalleled availability of all production systems. Perform highly advanced LAN/WAN activities. Create and document all actions, practices, procedures and processes. Confer with management, define the bounds and aims of network implementations, and provide management with status and progress reports. Plan and design projects. Analyze existing network and system procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Integrate data telecommunications networks; network design and installation. Analyze business requirements to design and implement an infrastructure solution based on a Windows platform and Microsoft Server software. Evaluate potential network enhancements. Mentor network team members. Work under limited direction with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Install, configure, troubleshoot, and monitor core network services such as fail-over, load balancing, bandwidth monitoring, caching, and VPN. Possess a customer/user - focused attitude. Interface with team members, clients, customers, and vendors Provide technical expertise in a variety of areas. Other reasonable Network Engineer services associated with the planning, deployment, installation, administration, and management of client networks. Minimum Qualifications Expert knowledge of network architecture design principles, practices, implementation, and LAN/WAN maintenance. Expert knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, routing, subnets, services management, DNS, and VPN. Expert knowledge of the following transport technologies: ISDN, Frame Relay, T1, T3, TCP/IP, Wireless (802.1x). Expert experience with Cisco routers, Switches and firewalls (minimum 5 years) Expert experience with Juniper/Netscreen firewalls (minimum 3 years) Minimum 5 years experience in the Data Communication field including multiple Network & Routing Protocols (TCP/IP, SNA, Net BIOS, Ethernet, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, QOS) and large network design. Proficient in network structural layout. Experience proactively securing network assets. Excellent verbal and written skills. Knowledge of and experience with different server operating platforms. Experience with a variety of switching, router, firewall, and network equipment. Strong working knowledge of WAN & LAN Technologies (ATM, MPLS, Frame Relay, Sonet, ISDN, IPSec VPN). Network troubleshooting including application performance debugging and Wireshark analysis. Working knowledge of Internet email (smtp, mx records troubleshooting) Working knowledge of DNS, Internet Infrastructure, and IP informational tools. Understanding and implementation experience of SNMP and Syslog Experience with monitoring tools such as Cisco works, Solar winds, What s up Gold. Exceptionally good customer facing, writing and verbal communication skills to manage demanding users in a high-pressure production environment a must. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor/s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. Experience mentoring network team members. Experience with Windows 2000/2003, Linux. Experience with Market data services. Experience with Avaya, Alcatel, Nokia, and Cisco equipment. VOIP and IPT experience. VMWare and NetApp experience a plus Demanding users in a high-pressure production environment a must Knowledge of ITIL Best Practices (Change, Incident and Problem management) a big plus Cisco Certifications (CCNP or CCIE level desired) Juniper Ceritfications
