Job Title: Operations Technician

Reports To: Manager - Production Environment/Quality Assurance

Position Overview:
Responsible for providing 2nd level support for all operational failure and issues within the Data Center Operations department. Serves as a technical point of escalation for the Operations staff and could be called upon to perform supervisory duties from time to time in the absence of a manager.


Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Creating and maintaining backups
  • Second level support of both NT and UNIX servers.
  • Primary on-site subject matter expert for Legato and associated systems
  • Second level support for backup/recovery issues
  • Second level support for hardware failures
  • Second level support for operational technical issues
  • Primary on-site subject matter expert for server installations
  • Escalating issues appropriately and timely that cannot be resolved at 2nd level
  • Help to train and develop Operations staff
  • Open and close tickets according to operations procedures
  • Documenting issues and follow-up where necessary
  • Root cause and trend analysis as directed
  • Ensure that stated SLAs are met
  • Research and implement monitoring/automation tools
  • Designs , sets objectives, and coordinates data backup and recovery procedures
  • Support company policies and procedures
  • Make recommendations to the Data Center Manager to vendor selection in the best interests of the OPS department
  • Ensuring projects get completed in a timely manner
  • Interact with the IS staff and Management personnel along with the client computing community in the installation planning for Operations hardware and software projects
  • Other operational tasks assigned by manager


    Position Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent certifications
  • At least 5 years experience in information technology with 2 years in a Data Center/Support environment
  • Knowledge at the expert level of current techniques and hardware capabilities of personal computers, servers, local area networks, wide area networks, and telecommunications
  • Minimum 2 years working in a midrange system fields
  • Should be adept at UNIX fundamentals, UNIX system and network administration basics
  • Good oral and written communications skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate well with technical staff
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues effectively towards efficient resolutions
  • Good knowledge of Windows and familiar with EDP Standards and Procedures
  • Good understanding of supporting an Enterprise Network via automation products, Tivoli , Legato and Track-it a Plus..
  • Ability to maintain, track, and report project status and metrics
  • Must be a strong team player with a constructive perspective and commitment to the success of the group
