Position Overview
The Director of Operations directs the production scheduling and computer operations of all production and control activities associated with computer processing and the Production Management and Quality Assurance Group. The Director of Operations establishes and enforces standards for controlling work flow and the integrity of data through the production process, and for ensuring the quality of production work and the security of material, equipment, files and personnel within data processing facilities.
This position is challenged with maintaining the reliability of all systems in the Operations area. This includes maintaining network reliability, assuring on-time production (batch) processing and overseeing and assisting in the development of an ?airtight? disaster recovery plan.
Primary Responsibilities:
Supervises and monitors the performance of productions to ensure the accurate and timely completion of Operations production work
Oversees the economical and effective utilization of production facilities and resourced including personnel and equipment
Assumes extensive responsibility for projecting and planning future hardware, software and personnel needs.
Informs management of recurring or projected resource and capacity problems and initiates and coordinates planning and/or corrective action.
Reviews, approves and directs the design and implementation of production procedures and performs planning and scheduling of operations resources.
Evaluates the performance of production resources and reports the results to management. Implements change where required to improve production performance.
Approves procedural and security standards for Operations functions to protect the security of the installation, the data processed by the department and its personnel, programs and the computer equipment that performs the necessary processing.
Insures the maintenance of a clean, healthy and efficient working environment for all Operations personnel.
Approves programs to educate management and users in computer equipment capabilities and data entry requirements.
Works with management to coordinate and improve Operations services.
Assists in the development of and approves a contingency plan to ensure system backup and recovery capability for the Operations area.
Oversees and ensures efficient and effective usage of supplies, materials and services for the data processing area.
Serves as the senior disaster recovery director under disaster recovery circumstances.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Plans and directs the hiring, training and development of Operations management personnel.
Appraises manager-level subordinates and controls promotions and salary reviews for Operations department associates.
Coordinates and oversees the activities of the Managers of Computer Operations and Managers of Production Management and Assurance Group to insure that all activities within those areas are performed in a competent and efficient manner.
Budgetary Responsibilities:
Prepares and manages the short and long-range Operations department expense budget.
Prepares and manages the short and long-range Operations department capital budget.
Prepares and recommends department personnel salary increases and promotions.
Estimates resources requirements and the cost of maintaining production services to insure both flexibility and machine capacity to meet normal production requirements
Prepares related financial documents for the Operations area.
