Systems Administrator - Websphere
Responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, installation, system testing and training for all Websphere Portal Server systems developed internally or by outside vendors.
Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles and the ability to quickly assimilate new information. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work; general instructions on new assignments from IT liaisons to the internal client community utilizing Portal applications. Relate business requirements from multiple facets of the organization to best practices within the Portal. The position requires a good understanding of databases (primarily db2 and MS SQL) both functionally and structurally as they pertain to Portal technology.
MAJOR DUTIES:
· Assume lead role in the application and technical support of the aforementioned software to include all modules and interfaces.
· Design, configuration and installation of all new applications
· Responsible for configuring and modifying any application content
· Monitoring, optimizing and tuning applications
· Ability to troubleshoot systems; communicate effectively with each system's support center whether by phone, in meetings, or via online support. This includes working IBM support system for reporting problems.
· Ability to determine severity of system 'problem' and its effect on the completion of required tasks
· Perform user administration for all applications. This includes the documentation of all access rights for each application within the Portal.
· Proven ability to effectively communicate, in writing and verbally, with all levels of management as well as employees
· Ability to prioritize and complete complex task in agreed upon time frame
· Ability to apply functional program and environment patches, fixes or upgrades
· Experience in system backups as well as determining best practices for disaster recovery
· Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments.
· Assist in the creation of and the adherence to Change Control procedures for all enhancement requests for the Production system
· Ability to identify network and infrastructural concerns for the aforementioned applications during the Change Control process
· Ability to document and communicate best business practices for technical and functional system processes.
· Ability to maintain and document procedures and process guides for new systems/interfaces
· Ability to identify and assist in the troubleshooting of application database related issues within db2 and MS SQL
· QA skills a plus.
· All other duties as assigned
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
1. Feedback from IT Directors and appropriate staff.
2. Project leadership ability with regards to the administration of the Portal technologies; utilization of client/server application software and database technologies in a business environment; use of systems development methodology; application and database systems technology evaluation and selection; service level management; problem management, configuration management; change management; and system administration skills.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to Director, IT Service Delivery. Work closely with the IT client liaison for all divisions as well as directly with clients utilizing the Portal.
Administrator will work with IBM or IBM Partner and also will work with 3rd party vendors engaged to create new Portal applications.
QUALIFICATIONS/OTHER:
· Bachelor's degree and/or 2-3 years of systems administration experience on IBM Websphere Portal Server V6 products. Should include knowledge of DB2, Tivoli, LCD, Portlet Factory and all other IBM Portal technology offerings.
· Experience with MS SQL Server database, Active Directory, systems implementations, QA and business analysis a plus.
