Client is a diversified international provider of financial and investment banking services with corporate headquarters in Sydney, Australia. Worldwide they employ over 10,000 people in 24 countries. In the Americas, their headquarters is located in New York City, where they employ 500 employees.
We are seeking an entrepreneurial individual to join our Network Services team on a contract basis as a Network Engineer.
The Network Services team is responsible for managing the network infrastructure globally. The team works closely with other Information Services Division (ISD) teams around the world. The team is distributed across New York, London, Hong Kong and Sydney making it necessary for you to have the ability to work as part of a geographically separated team. You will report to the Regional Manager for Engineering Services based in New York as well as the Network Manager located in Sydney
In the role of Network Engineer you will work with the team to build and support the global data and voice networks. You will provide network engineering and support skills to the region and work to meet business needs while maintaining established network standards.
Responsibilities will include:
• Initiating, implementing and managing network changes for project or support work
• Working as a technical resource on projects
• Providing network consultancy to other IT teams
• Maintaining and implementing the environment in accordance with established standards
• Building and updating network documentation
• Provisioning of carrier links for projects once approved by the team manager
• Capacity planning & management
• Assisting in maintaining existing network monitoring and management platforms
• Coordinating and performing maintenance work
• Assisting in the development and execution of the team’s BCP/DR design and plan
• Assisting in the investigation of future networking trends and technologies including suggested timing of implementation
• Providing input into strategy for the global network team
• Piloting new technologies
• Appropriately using the network monitoring and management platforms
• Assisting in vendor management
• Performing background investigation to aid in the technical consultation function
• Developing technical and financial options for presentation to the business
• Handling 2nd and 3rd level network support functions
• Providing technical guidance for less experienced engineers
You should have a minimum of 6 years experience in a similar role. You must have initiative and be comfortable working in a changing environment. Additionally you must be able to perform under time pressure, be part of an on call roster and regularly work out of normal business hours, often with little notice. Some travel within North America may be required.
This role is ideal for self-starters who thrive off autonomy and are good at seizing opportunities. Ideally you will be qualified to degree level, hold a Cisco CCNP certification as a minimum and have proven experience in a network support or engineering role.
Key skills include:
• Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Cisco switches, routers and firewalls.
• Hand-on experience configuring and supporting Cisco IPTEL and other voice platforms.
• Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Checkpoint firewalls on the Nokia platform.
• Working knowledge of common network technologies and protocols: LAN, WAN, Dial, VPN, TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, BGP, IPSEC, SNMP
• In-depth knowledge of and experience in mitigating network security issues
• Planning and scheduling skills
