My client is currently seeking a Software Developer to deliver functional code in a rapidly iterative development model, with frequent feedback from the user base. The developer will be expected to design and develop solutions that meet all phases of the user requirements, from fast and tight numerical analysis to a functional user interface.
My Client owns and operates electricity generation facilities in the Northeast United States. The Commercial Operations application is a mature codebase written in Ruby to aggregate operational and energy market data from a wide array of sources, perform calculations and transformations, generate realtime data streams and monitor the data into AJAX-based web pages and alert heuristics. The Risk Portfolio software is a new codebase being designed and built as a calculation platform for quantitative analytics on complex derivative products.
Experience: This role is a 6-month contract position, with an option for full-time employment. The position's primary roles are to design and implement software solutions for the Commercial Operations group and the Risk Portfolio group.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a wide range of programming and computer skills, with experience in infrastructure design and the full software lifecycle. Intelligence, curiosity, and broad programming skills and experience are more important than deep, esoteric knowledge in specific fields.
Specific technical knowledge and experience that is required:
.1-2 years programming Ruby
.3-5 years programming C and C++
.Experience programming on UNIX/Linux
.Experience with functional programming styles
.Experience with Ruby on Rails (or other application framework)
Optional skills which are preferred:
.Experience managing and administrating MySQL (or other relational database)
.Experience coding for financial markets or energy markets
