FIX Java Developer in NEW YORK, NY

Wednesday, May 07, 2008
The IT team designs, develops and maintains a number of high-availability, low-latency quoting and trading systems, using cutting-edge technologies such as data fabrics.

We are looking for a mid-level JAVA programmer with experience in the FIX protocol. Clients connect to us using a number of different types of incoming and outgoing data feeds, both FIX and proprietary. We plan to add new types of FIX feeds, and offer a FAST option for our main market data feeds. We also have a number of planned enhancements to our core messaging systems and back-end services.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of FIX experience, and 2 to 5 years of Java programming experience.

Your responsibilities will include:
** Design and architecture of software solutions
** Development of software components
** Identification, tracking and resolution of software defects and issues
** Level 3 production support

We offer a casual working environment in an airy loft office space in Manhattan, one of the most exciting and creative places in the world. The people you will work with passionately believe in technology and have a strong appreciation for good, smart software. All of our developers enjoy a great deal of autonomy, ownership and creative freedom.
Experience: We don't stick with formal methodology, although our work pattern resembles that of SCRUM/Agile development with short release cycle and flexible project plans. We love open source and evangelize it whenever we can but don't mind paying for top quality software when needed. Our developers have the flexibility of choosing the development platform (the majority of them use their preferred flavor of Linux with Eclipse as the IDE).

This is an environment where you are not just a peg in a large system; thus you are expected to take initiative in investigating solutions and technologies as new needs emerge as well as multitask and prioritize with minimal supervision. The ability to quickly learn new skills, a proactive attitude and resourcefulness are critical.

Given our small, highly dynamic environment, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a MUST.
