Senior eCommerce Applications Developer in New York, NY

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Applications Development team is responsible for the coding and integration of the various applications running on the diverse web site. The team works closely with the Project Management Office on approved scheduled projects and is generally responsible for:
. eCommerce application development employing J2EE and Microsoft standards
. Integrating vendor packages
. Database modeling and scripting
. System documentation
. Production defect repair and enhancements

The online environment consists of P690s running AIX, Websphere Application Server, Websphere Commerce Server, and DB2. There is a storage area network (SAN) based on IBM's Shark and McData's fabric switch. The Windows environment is based on Intel servers and there is a legacy of Sun/Solaris, Oracle and ATG applications. Networking and security are based on Cisco products.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
The Developer will cultivate working relationships with various teams within the Technology Service Group. These include:
. All members of the Technology Service Applications Development team.
. Members of the Technology Service Network Operations team.
. Members of the PMO team (e.g. Project Managers).
. Business units, backend systems, customer service teams, production support teams, external vendors and consultants.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
. Work as technical lead, architect, hands-on developer, and contributing team member.
. Evaluate business and technical requirements in order to write and implement technical specifications related to the company's web initiatives.
. Work with other members of the Applications Development team to implement technical specifications.
. Partner with functional groups both internal to Scholastic Technology Service Group (e.g., project management, network operations) and external vendors in order to provide tightly integrated solutions between the web applications and the legacy backend systems.
. Demonstrate expertise in the technologies chosen for developing Scholastic's web application solutions (e.g., J2EE applications, Websphere App Server, WebSphere Commerce, Interwoven TeamSite, GWT, Endeca Search Engine, GWT, Ajax, EJB, Struts, MQ, LDAP, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server database).
. Author application code both collaboratively and independently while ascribing to best practice version control and development methodologies
. Design and build applications for scalability and redundancy.
. Adhere to industry standards and Scholastic Technology Service Group-defined guidelines and principles for software engineering.
. Quickly ascertain existing applications and underlying codes and architecture in order to aid in defect detection and resolution.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Key characteristics contributing to the success of the Developer include the ability to be flexible, accountable, and reliable and work effectively as part of a cohesive team.
. BA or BS degree.
. 5+ years' experience with J2EE applications in a UNIX/Linux environment.
. 3+ years' experience with Websphere App Server, and WebSphere Commerce.
. 2+ years' experience with EJB, Struts, MQ, JMS, DB2, XML, Web Services
. Experience with Interwoven TeamSite, GWT, Endeca Search Engine, GWT, Ajax, LDAP, Oracle, SQL Server database, SVN
. Working knowledge of best practice development methods, including version control, regression testing, and exposure to test driven development.
. Solid understanding of error identification including log evaluation and technology tools in aiding the development process of large applications.
. Advanced exposure to both server and client side considerations in e-commerce application development.
