Description:
This project will move the Client's financial management software from a mainframe, CICS-based platform to an AIX, web-based JAVA and WebSphere platform. This position will help support the AIX environments required to develop, test and implement the new system into production. In addition, there are several other JAVA and web based applications which will be implemented as different phases of the project.


Position Description:
Responsible for performing all facets of support and maintenance of AIX servers on a client location
Complete periodic checks of production and development systems; CPU utilization, memory profiles, disk utilization, network connectivity, system log files, etc. Install, test and apply all pertinent IBM maintenance patches, fixes and upgrades.
Work with IBM Customer Support to troubleshoot and resolve all problems and issues
Manage system backups, including:
Manage and administer Symantec / Veritas Netbackup application
Verify successful completion of daily incremental and database backups, following developed procedures
Assist with capacity planning activities.
Support user requests, such as download files, user and password administration
Support DBA requests, ie. disk allocations, account creation and software installations
Provide support for application software installations and upgrades
Responsible for working with client to review and refine existing administrative standards and procedures, as well as developing new procedures, including system documentation, procedures and job processes. Experience: Able to independently install, configure, and make operational AIX logical partitions on p5 550/p5 570 class hardware Expert level of knowledge of the AIX operating system, able to install, maintain and upgrade releases, apply patches and fixes as appropriate. Proficient in establishing and maintaining HACMP in a large enterprise environment. Able to monitor system performance, identify throughput bottlenecks, recommend and implement changes to ensure optimum system performance. Able to perform problem identification, diagnosis and resolution with AIX servers, including all hardware and software components. Proficient with Korn shell scripting and Unix utilities, able to develop, support and maintain robust scripts to monitor and manage file systems Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
