Title: MS Systems Engineer

Detail Job Description:

Develop and manages server, storage and application configurations, implementations new projects and technologies

Performs hardware setup, software installation/configuration and the day-to-day administration of Microsoft operating systems and related services (e.g Exchange, IIS, MSSQL)

Perform production operations support including checking daily logs, backup/recovery procedures, disaster recovery, and periodic maintenance

Performs on-going performance and operations management to e
nsure the smooth operation and overall efficiency of the Windows Server environment. This includes upgrades, patches, managing and monitoring system and application backups, performance monitoring and notification tools

Expert-level knowledge in backup/recovery system design and support, including experience with Veritas NetBackup

Basic understanding of relational databases and server requirements to provide a stable, reliable infrastructure in support of RDBMS environments

Develops quality measurement and reporting procedures for support to manage the satisfaction of service level agreements

Conducts performance tuning, ensures the availability of systems and performs capacity planning for server and storage resources

Provides regular management reports and recommendations regarding capacity planning for resources within the position's scope of responsibility

Expert level knowledge in the implementation and a management of complex storage environments, including storage area networks (SANs) is preferred. Such experience would include disk and RAID group configurations, volume management, as well as backup/recovery strategies

Evaluates new technologies & tools, testing & installation of new Windows Server systems hardware & software, and assists with establishing and maintaining technical standards, policies & procedures

Maintains the Active Directory structure and all interrelated authentication systems, including the administration of user accounts, shared resources and access permissions.

Monitors Help Desk tickets and group queue/mailbox and responds to
end-user problems and questions. Answers off-hour support pages, consistently within 15 minutes

Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the level of responsibility of the position

Requirements:

Strong problem solving and root cause analysis

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to work in a team environment or as an individual contributor

Must be well versed in dealing with staff that is both technical and non-technical

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to organize and work on multiple projects concurrently, often under strict time constraints

Must be able to effectively multi-task

Highly detailed oriented

Ability to be available 24/7 and work alternating shift, as required in order to support the availability and uptime requirements of the business.


Technical Skills:

Microsoft certification preferred

Windows Server Operating Systems, specifically Windows NT/2000/2003 and a strong background in Active Directory

Exchange 2000 support with respect to routing, SMTP, administration, security and operations Server Hardware configuration, installation, and maintenance

Blackberry Enterprise Server

Software packaging, installation, maintenance

Development of test cases/procedures and training documentation

Strong TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, WINS, and SMTP knowledge

Outlook Web Access 2000 knowledge

Command line and remote administration

Familiar with Remote Desktop Software, VPN, and well versed in RFC 821/822

Knowledge of the following will be an added advantage:
